I was at the UNM Lobo football season opener against UNLV in Albuquerque this weekend. They had brough "refugees" from Katrina to the game and honored them in the pregame show.
Having watched UNM play...I asked my daughter....haven't they suffered enough? She said that displaced college students from Louisana were allowed to start classes at UNM this week without meeting entry/records reqmts, money, etc. Good on UNM...and probably lots of other schools. On a serious note, apparently the folks who were smart enough to leave when told to are also smart enough to get on with their life without sitting around and feeling sorry for themselves/blaming others.

The current estimate is that over $100,000 worth of brand new clothes, toys, etc were delivered to Veteran's Memorial Coliseum in a 24 hour period. There was a 45 minute wait today to drop off donations which are being handled by the Salvation Army. The children are being enrolled in school immediately and a job fair has been scheduled for the adults. Many families have offered to house evacuees in their homes.

US customs has offered 10's of thousands of confiscated tommy hilfiger and other knock off clothing that has been kept in US customs warehouses... Apparently that went over big...
