I've seen timelines that go the other way too. Stuff like the mayor was "doing this" or "that" instead of what he should be doing (e.g., bbqing or whatever). I just wish a staightforward timeline without all this "innuendo" could be found. |

My only point was that this is not simply the sentiment of a sole individual who raps. In fact, it is a sentiment shared and proclaimed by the leaders of the black community (at least the ones I've seen interviewed)and thus, widely held. I agree that "Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton equal Pat Robertson", but that a whole different topic... one not relevant to the current discussion (that the sentiment is one of a sole individual). right? I viewed the Dean comments on TV, so I can not provide a link. Sorry. He did not say "Bush hates black people", exactly. He said something like - people suffered because of the color of their skin and Bush let it happen - or something like that. - Skip |
He said people suffered because the color of their skin and Bush let it happen? If this is true (sorry I'm a skeptic, sometimes comments can be misinterpreted, I believe you, but I don't know if you misinterpreted or not, I see that a lot), but if this is true, and it's not misinterpreted, then that's not acceptable to me.
And IMO, Mark Wilson is just giving this nonsense exposure. I don't know why he would give such nonsense further exposure? |

Since I see the president's function in this as primarily symbolic, there might not have been a huge material difference in what most storm victims experienced. However, I cannot imagine a Superdome [or worse, the convention center] full of campaign contributors would have been managed the way we saw. And that relates more to power than race, but -- and this is the underlying issue -- how completely can the two be separated in NO? |

Not to mention, at that early time, I don't think we all appreciated the enormity of the situation. He had since cancelled his "stuff" for the rest of the week. I personally don't think it's such a big deal......I mean, if this guitar thing hinders rescue, then yes. But I"m reasonably sure it didn't. |

These were mistakes on all levels, plain and simple, and some probably were not carried out considering the mindboggling speed in which this thing formed and devastated. I think everything would've played the same. I just don't think people appreciate the profoundness of this disaster and the speed of same....like nothing we've ever seen. |

All I can say is that Bill Clinton [or Al Gore] would have have taken a hands-on role, and I suspect many more people would have been saved... but we'll never know. How you can excuse frivolous activities in the face of "the greatest disaster to strike the United States" is beyond me, but hey, like I said, we have very low expectations for W. |

You left out a key part of my post: Not to mention, at that early time, I don't think we all appreciated the enormity of the situation. He had since cancelled his "stuff" for the rest of the week. |

Those who own property there know it. It's pretty much a summer place for most. I guarentee people on that island would get the hell out at even a hint of rain. ;) Seriously, the locals I talked to there don't expect that island to last too long. . .. and it's ABOVE sea level. |

My dear, be fair in your comments and take the middle ground, otherwise someone might accuse you of being biased towards one side... Tech, is this like when Clinton was getting blow jobs in the oval office from someone other than his wife and instead of taking care of Bin Laden he just pissed him off by lobbing a few cruise missles in the general direction. Yea sure, Clinton would have had a more hands on role, with his hands pulling on the ears of what-ever intern he could find at the moment and neglecting the affairs of the country all the while... And of course (not you, but with some) with the following key emotion words: murderer, blood on their hands, etc.. dramatics. And I'm sorry Joe, I apologize for earlier. But this blamegame has got to stop until all the facts are in. And yes, that means you too techweenie. |
CC,
Thanks and no need to apologise, just lets all be honest and fair. Joe A |

Yep, Bush hates poor blacks. As I said earlier, with your Nantucket example; some people KNOW their property is semi-stable at best. Just how many resources should be thrown at semi-stable property? The demands of making an ocean-front BOWL, BELOW SEA LEVEL, livable/survivable during a Cat-5 Hurricane are unreasonable. Why is that so tough to understand? Is it because you think that you will appear sympathetic to those poh folk who have (had) homes in that bowl? How much more obvious does this need to be made? The demands of making an ocean-front BOWL, BELOW SEA LEVEL, livable/survivable during a Cat-5 Hurricane are unreasonable. The moon would be a better place to build anything that expensive. sheesh. |

1.5 million+ people were displaced by a category 5 hurricane. That's not a 'new fact.' That was known Monday. Only hours later, water began pouring over the levees (Monday afternoon). |

It's a disease anymore that everyone's always looking for this elusive "bias" all the freaking time and ASSuming that there's "bias" in everything in this damn country. It's a "bias" that the damn grass is green and not blue, bias towards the color green. It's a damn "bias" that I like tulips but not gardenias.....must be "biased" against the south, right? Nuts anymore. |
