My retired FIL has been buying old Victrola record players. Does anyone here know a good source to find out the value of them?
He just picked up a portable Brunswick today with a ton of 78 speed records. Thanks, ![]()

Just a guess but how about the Internet? Sorry but had to say that.
Have you looked on Ebay? Would keep an eye on several auctions there and see what they sold for and go from there unless they are very special versions. I would also venture a guess that there is a forum like this one somewhere on the internet. Like here: http://sonoraman.proboards23.com/index.cgi JOeA

My understanding is that right now, most are worth little or nothing. Very few people want an old/antique record player. The supply more than meets the demand.
If things change and it becomes "fashionable" to have an old record player as a decoration in your home, the old stuff could become valuable, but unless that happens it looks like collectors will just be doing it for the love of the hobby. |

This board rocks.
Thanks guys. I did a google search but really didn't find what I needed to know. My in-laws are internet challenged so I try to help them out with values. Growing up in Port Huron, where Edison spent his childhood, gave me an appreciation for his early technology. My Mom has a Victrola that was her father's. He bought it new in the 30's. The value of it depends on who's asking ![]()

Go over to audioasylum.com, in particular the vinyl asylum, and do some searches and ask some questions... you'll get help... I don't know much about 78's or Victrola's but there is a following out there.
