Now This is Horse Power!
Max decided he wanted to take the fall off from Soccer (3 years running is starting to burn him out!). So we dicided maybe he would like to learn Horsemanship. This is his first time riding. I think we will do it every weekend. He loved it and seemed to do well. I like the fact that he keeps his back straight and most of the time he keeps his heels down (he does need some boots!). He is even learning how to tack and groom! The horse (pony actually) is perfect size for him now but in a few years he will out grow her.
I told my wife "Give him 8 years and he will be on the Rodeo circuit!", "God almightly Mike, can he just have something to do that he doesn't have to compete in!" She has a point... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

I asked the same question. The instructor said that he will learn 2pt. Western is obviously the most popular and comfortable but if he is going to learn, I would like him to learn both. English and 2pt are more difficult. If he went Western first then going to English would be a struggle.
Man, you guys! I'm gonna teach him how to make his mount drop dung on command so he can keep up with all your *****...

i say no saddle... once i had that nailed, i never fell off a horse again...
did get kicked in the face by one though... right on the chin... lost over a week of my memory, was out cold for 2 days but got back on the bronco without a saddle the day i got out of the hospital... and spent another 6 months on liquids...10 years old...when it happened... i blame that for my focus and behavioural problems... hell , it's as good excuse as any other.

OK - you guys are starting to piss me off about now. His instructor is a woman and not really that flamboyant, more into show riding than roping but what ever...
The little guy has more "Y" chromo than half the guys on this board... I better start gettin some "sorry Mike" soon here. Mike's gett'n mad!

Lube,
I was mortified when I HAD to learn english and 2pt as a kid...I was five and we lived in the coastal mountains up from Point Mugu, Ca. amid mostly western leaning ranchettes. Both my older sisters were excellent riders and my mom was firm about english first. Once I got a "seat", we bought an old roping horse and tack from a neighbor and I immediately felt my other nut drop into place. But, western was a breeze after engish. I don't ride anymore, but both my kids and wife do...as RR said, "nothing is better for the inside of a man than the outside of a horse".

Thats some funny ***** Shaun! Actually it is the riding position. Think of the way jockeys ride. Gives your legs a he!! of a workout but your spine doesn't get compressed!
