Best Place to Buy a Television
Where is the best place to buy a television. My old thing has problems that I kinda don't care about since I don't watch it anyway, but my daughter will be visiting me more, and she will want a TV to watch. It'd be somwhere around 30" or so, in order to fit into my Entertainment Center, and I need nothing real special.
Big Lots? Costco? Good Guys? Video Only?

Bill got his big screen at Video Only and got a pretty good deal on that and other stuff there.
I bought my Sony Vega at Fred Meyer because it was $200 off and came with a $100 gift card too. I figured a Sony in the box is a Sony in the box wherever I bought it, so I went for the deal.

My favorite place to buy a TV is www.crutchfield.com. I have purchased 2 TVs from them over the years and highly recommend them. They delivered (up-stairs) and set-up the TV for no additional cost(s) beyond the purchase price. The purchase price is competitive with stores such as Best Buy/Circuit City but depending on location you will probably not have to pay sales tax being that it is an internet business. If you decide to buy from them, I can give you a referral coupon for $20 off if you want it because I just bought some stuff for my car from them.

Television is a singularly negative influence on our society, make do without.

Hard to beat Costco. Their return policy seems to be on a par with Nordstrom. You could check there and compare online at like www.pricegrabber.com or www.mysimon.com but I've been impressed with some prices at Fry's Electronics, especially when they have something on sale. They show a location in Renton and are at www.frys.com

Not where but how is the important question. Check with your credit card and see if they support an extended warranty. My AmEx does and have used it solely for large purchases the last 10 years.
They double the warranty period FOR FREE for almost any product purchased on their card. Visa and MC sometimes do it so its worth checking. Have had several things fail and used the coverage and it works and is painless. Never get the extended warranty offered at the stores when you can get the same thing for free from your credit card. Last TV came from Fry's electronics. Mitsibishi 55 inch HD Platinum. Mitsiub had a deal where you could buy a TV for no interest for 18 months using their credit. Paid it off with my AmEx at 17.5 months and paid no interest and still doubled the warranty... Life is good... JoeA

Pawn shop. Also, check again on when the FCC is changing the broadcast rules to make sure your new TV will work with whats being sent in 5-6 years.

I agree with Taz's Master. When I've had time to watch TV it's been History Channel or Discovery or baseball. But according to my current schedule, my next opportunity to watch TV will be some time in 2008. Still the daughter likes it, and we could watch movies and eat popcorn together. My psychologist says I need to develop strategies to rest. I responded by discussing my strategies for getting more and better sleep and he said that's different. He says I need to rest sometimes, besides sleeping. Whatsup with that? It would be easier for me to fly than to sit still. Sht. He seems to understand a bunch of stuff I don't. Like the difference between perfection and optimal performance. Huh?
Anyway, I digress. Maybe that's for another thread. Thanx for the TV advice.

Even though I can always get employee pricing at an Ultimate Electronics, I still shop around for a deal on a TV.
What I normally do is research the size and namebrand that I want, then I hit the streets and start shopping. I'll check both Best Buys in town(looking for that rare 'un-used' open item steal), and both Circuit Citys in town. I'll even hit Sams and Wally World. Unfortunately we don't have a Costco, so I can't shop them too. Don't buy a rear projection closeout though from any of the above that has been sitting on the sales floor. They usually suffer from dim pictures due to the months worth of high contrast running for 8-12 hours per day.
