Anyone gearing up for hunting season?

Father-in-law has a management permit, so whitetail season (rifle) starts for me on 10/01.

Just wondering if anyone else was looking forward to hunting this season, what you plan on hunting and where (region of the country).

For me, whitetail wayyy down in South-South TX.

Oh yeah Skip,

Quail/pheasant in mid-November. Then rifle season whitetail early December (may use the .54 muzzleloader for fun this year) (possibly a muley tag), Turkey in the spring. All this in SW/SC Kansas, 10,000 acres with tent camping. I'm ready for some cold temps and need to get to the range.

I'm not sure we need a permit or not, but I think the NO gang season is open, here in Houston. We're already getting a lot of local news about this.

And Nagin has the gaul to tell them they can't come back to NO. As if they are going to listen to him anyway...

Oh, well, I do have a Gang member/terrorist ventilator, if needed...

I hunt in Baldwin as well. That is as far south in Michigan you can go and still use a rifle.

Where in MT?

My wife killed a bear in Jewel Basin (NW MT). She hiked up, killed it, skinned it, then carried it back down.

I've never been able to hunt up there.

Not anymore. My hunting buddy died in an industrial accident about 15 years ago. More than a hunting buddy. We'd been friends for decades...college roomates on. Shared everything, closer than brothers. Our hunting days were more than hunting days. Just wasn't the same anymore....

We actually hunt in Pines Point state park. Not a great place to hunt, but its a tradition. My father grew up in Muskegon, so we would drive up there when I was a kid. My grandfather passed away about 10 years ago, but we still head over to Pines Point to honor the man. Feels good to sit under the same trees my grandfather sat under 50 years ago.

General deer season opens Oct 1. I finally got a load worked up for the Freedom Arms .454. Leaupold 2X mounted and zeroed. I shot a four-inch group at 100 yards Saturday from a rest. Amazing. I'm ready.

I'll be sitting against my favorite piece of granite at 5:00 AM, trying like hell to become a piece of the landscape.

Good luck to you all and be safe.

Trust me, I do! I've seen her make one hole bigger at 300 yards.

The Pennsylvania Game Commission has issued so many doe licenses in the past few years that the deer are getting rare. The trade-off was a promise of larger buck racks, which has come to pass. They say that this works for a number of reasons. but I suspect that lumber and auto insurance interests are behind it. Doesn't bother me as I quit hunting the deer years ago.
We spend some of our weekends with the springer trying to kick-out some grouse-and actually drop one sometimes. As most experienced hunters will admit, it is the anticipation and the actual hunt which is the deal- not the meat.

I'll likely wait until after the normal deer season this time... I have never hunted deer anyway...

A few buddies of mine and I will probably get together in February and go hunt hogs down around Victoria.

As for gearing up, all I need is Wolf to come out with that damn 7.5x55 Swiss, slap a Mojo on one of my K31s and I'll be good to go.
