The military has to have a lot of surplus T-10 and T-28 round canopy chutes stashed somewhere. We could help them get rid of them and get rid of the illegals at the same time.

JoeA, stories like that reinforce the horror of what happened that day, and illustrate the inhumanity of the hijackers. Not that we need proof, but your story touches deeply, and makes us sad and angry all over again.

When we take those emotions and use them as an excuse to start acting like them, we lose. At least you'd grant this guy a show trial before killing him, but that does not give me much comfort. This rule of law is most sorely tested in times of anger, with the most inhumane, despicable criminals. "Let's just suspend the rule of law for them" is an understandable reaction, and it takes real conviction in life and liberty to overcome it. I believe in the rule of law. So, no, I won't be advocating torture and killing without due process, not matter how heinous the person seems (my impression of him from reading a message board, of all things).

I have a story too. Not quite as emotional, but just as important. About 20 years ago, a young woman was murdered in the town next to me. She was killed in a most heinous fashion. The investigation eventually focused on a police officer in that very town. He was married, and after trying to hide it, it came out that he had had an ongoing affair with that woman. She was threatening to call his wife, and to report him to his police supervisors. She had written him letters to that effect.

The woman was found with her head bashed in by a fire extinguisher.

At trial, a long trail of lies and deceit came out. The cop had lied over and over about this woman, whether he had known her, even where he was the night of the killing. To top it off, there was even was evidence of a cover-up by the police, with this guy in the middle of it.

The jury convicted him summarily. Had there been a death penalty in RI, I’m sure he would have been fried.

A couple of years ago, someone confessed to the crime. He just came out of the blue, said he could not take it anymore and went to the cops. DNA very quickly proved he was the real killer; he had no connection whatsoever with this police officer.

They released the police officer after 12 years in prison.

What does a cop that cheated on his wife have to do with a terrorist? I missed the connection. And if he was involved in a cover-up, he should have gone to prison. I don't care if the paperwork has the wrong offense on it.

To summarize your post, a man with questionable morals was put behind bars for the one thing he did not actually do. Again, I don't see the problem.

Rodeo, you do not seem to understand, we would give them a trial then take them out and shoot them. This is not terrorism but fast justice. We are not doing this out of emotion but out of the need for justice. We have far, far too many people sitting in Gitmo right now who are guilty of war against the United States who need to be sent to see Allah but are not due to soft liberals.

The terrorists understand this and use it against us. Its one of the reasons why no one would go after the Russians or Israeli's for many years. They understood that if they did that they and their family would be killed and that is a very strong deterent.

The sooner we wise up and realize that we are very close to being in a religious war, the better. Right now we are losing and a major part of the reason why is that we have not gotten our mindset correct yet. A few more hijackings, few more bombings, few more killings and maybe it will sink in...

This is something that 99.9% of us do not need, because after 20 years or so in the cockpit, every copilot know's how a Captain should look.

I cannot think of one good reason why a illegal immigrant from the Middle East who is not a pilot needs to have one of these unless they are trying to fool someone, and we all know where that leads to, another hijacking like 9/11.
