So I drove my buddies 350Z...
and I gotta say I was rather impressed. I didn't think it was NEARLY as quick as it was. Seat of the pants..I think it was quicker than the 04 986 (Tippy) I drove. I haven't checked the numbers yet, but it felt like it. Brakes bit HARD, too. With a nice, short throw in a precise 6spd box; man, it was awesome. Felt really small though, don't know if I could drive it for 6 hours straight. View through the back window was pretty bad, too, at least compared to the 944.
Anyone else driven a 350? Impressions? I know it probably doesn't stack up to a mid-late 90s 911, but come on, I drive a 944 ![]() I wish I had 30K to drop on a car. At 18...

I instructed in one at an autocross school, but unfortunately the driver had a long way to go before really exploring the car's limits.
I still haven't gotten used to the styling. |

I test drove one for about 10 minutes from a Nissan dealership. It was okay. I really like the look of it, but I thought that my 911 felt a lot faster. It has the same (3.5L?) engine as the Altima according to the dealer, so I wasn't that impressed. I also test drove the Mazda RX-8. Now that was a nice car! A little less bulky, better visibility, and the 9000 RPM limit was cool. The rotary engine is pretty quiet too.

One of these weekends, I'm going to take my 951 out to all of the car dealers and test drive every car that I want to test out. On my list:
Nissan 350Z Mazda RX8 Pontiac Solstice Chevy Corvette Z06 Mini Cooper S

I drove one and was not impressed. Seemed slow. I prefer my 87 over this brand new car (Although I wish my AC worked as good). Felt very small inside and seemed to have alot of blind spots.

I seriously considered going with a 350Z before buying my 84 911. I had a 71 240Z and 81 ZX so I was excited about getting back in a Z. I was generally impressed with the car until I started checking out some of the bulletin boards. Seems they have serious problems with tire wear. Some guys were reporting around 5K miles and needing new tires!

The '84, on the other hand, will get 6K on a set of rears, right?

Leland Pate sold his SC when he got married. He thought he should be responsible and trade in his old Porsche for a new, reliable sports car. After 6 months his new 350 had spent so much time at the dealer getting fixed that he's back in a Porsche.

Maybe it's just me, but the sound of that Nissan 3.5 really bugs me.

yawn...I prefer this 4 door 4 banger that does 0-60 is ~4.2 seconds out da box...Here in the states the 400 is not offered, but about $3,000 gets you in the same neighborhood.

Yeah, they perform alright but they're still butt-ugly.

I drove a friends 350Z roadster. It was somewhat practical, new ie: reliable, nice, and reasonably quick, but overall I found it less than exciting. Plenty of low down torque from the 3.5, but none of that WOOHOO, I JUST HIT 3,500K that the 911 has. As for cornering, although it held the road well it felt somewhat heavy with overassisted steering so in the end it had the same feeing that my old Honda Accord EX had. Nice, but nothing special.
It could be pointed out that "one" may be spoiled by driving Porsche's (yes, even older ones).

The quality is lacking for anyone considering one go sit in a used one with over 30K miles on it and it will be obvious. They are also cramped I use to have a '91 300ZX and it was a much better product for it's time.

My friend bought one...Nice seats, good A/C, Stereo, etc...but when his expensive new, 3.5 coud not come close to my old '74 911 with a 3.0.....I thought he would cry.

Nah...I told him that even though it was not very fast...the seats were a nice material that my wife would like. It would make a nice "girl" car. Expecially in a convertible.
