Yeah, but the NO people are _here_!

They are only evacuating 1000 NO people from the Astrodome. The ones in apartments, etc, are staying.

I heard on the way to work this morning that the governor had already sent (I think) 5,000 guard troops and 1,000 DPS officers here in anticipation of the storm. This is gonna be the worst one I have been through. I hope it turns south.

My poor 911 is gonna have to stay here through it. Don't worry, I gave her some buckets and showed her how to empty water.

I just pulled this off of the NSW website radar. Looks like its going to hit LA again? You tell me?

As the crow flys, I'm ~130 miles from the coast and ~190 miles from Houston. Should I be worried?

Skip, I heard on the radio this afternoon that Austin and San Antonio should expect tropical storm force winds. It will take a lot of land to kill this one, apparently.

I grew up on the east coast of FL... Went through many a hurricane party growing up. I guess NO has changed my thinking on this hurricane business.

There is a high pressure system keeping it to the south; as that goes by the hurricane with curve NW. When that happens isn't certain so there is a "cone of error" as to where the exact landfall will be. Of course the impact of a hurricane isn't a single point. It is possible that it could make a run north at New Orleans, but that is not what the experts are saying at this point. Very scary, hope everyone in TX stays safe.

The scariest part is the possibility of tur-na-ders (have to pronounce it right).

my ex-girlfriend bailed out of galveston and is holed up in brenham, tx. northwest of houston? is she far enough? rita looks huge!

red-beard 09-22-2005 03:54 PM

Mike - Thanks for the offer, we just boarded up the windows and we have a generator, etc. I think we'll be fine. If the storm track is right, it will go north, then hook west. Y'all may want to come down here!

Vash: Brenham is about 60 miles west of us. She should be fine. ex? Why do your care? just kidding. Rita is tracking east towards the TX/LA border. We are no longer forecast for hurricane force winds _here_, maybe only 40-75 MPH winds. only...

Steeve 09-22-2005 09:31 PM

Well, I am back in Houston, at a buddy's house. I spent 6 hours on the road today, and made it 11 miles. I decided I didn't need to spend 24-48 hours on the road with my dog. Hopefully I am far enough in that we are ok. It looks that way, since Rita has turned more towards LA.

And this way I can be back to the house quickly. I will post pictures of any looters I pick off, before I call the cops.

bryanthompson 09-22-2005 09:41 PM

Listening to the radio, it seems a lot of people in Houston decided the traffic wasn't worth it. People with GPS took backroads and were able to make it out of the area, everyone else was pretty much stuck.
