Here's an online map of Rita and the oil platforms in its way. FYI.

My oldest daughter lives in Sweeny, south of Houston. I think they're in line for a pretty good hit.

How long do these hurricanes last once they hit land?

As the crow flys, I'm ~130 miles from the coast and ~190 miles from Houston. Should I be worried?

I just knew Florida would be better off this year...I spent $5K on storm shutters! Hope all you Texans are going to be alright. We'll be watching. Good luck.

Wife forwarded from someone at work. Looks like it came from LSU, somehow...

Katrina did some decent damage around here and we're about 300 miles from the coast. Muscle Shoals, AL had sustained winds around 60mph.

Mike

edit: I checked the weather data and the winds in Muscle Shoals were more like sustained 40mph, not 60mph that was predicted...

Lovely Rita, hurricane!
Nothing can come between us,
When it gets dark she'll blow your house away!
Standing by a parking meter,
When I caught a glimpse of Rita,
Filling in the pavement with her little white hail
In the news she looked much bigger,
And The Gulf below her eye wall
Made her look a little like Katrina before.
Lovely Rita, hurricane!
May I inquire discreetly,
When are you free,
To blow my town away?
Stood outside and tried to stop her,
She blew right past, right around me
Told her I wouldn't really like to see her again,
Got the bill; insurance paid it,
She went north and caused a rain-out
Floating on the river with a gator or two.
Oh, lovely Rita, hurricane!
Where would I be without you,
Give us a wink and make me think of you.

CNN just talked to an oil analyst who's predicting $5. per gallon gasoline this weekend.

Dude it's almost as big as the Gulf I'd run!

Those poor refugees from NO that are holed up in Houston must really think God hates them.

David 09-21-2005 11:34 AM

I'm right at the edge of the evacuation zone. I'm supposed to leave by noon tomorrow. I'll probably wait until late tonight to get out. It shouldn't be that bad at my house, but why risk it.

Not if the black leadership and the Democrat party can help it.

"I heard from a very reliable source who saw a 25 foot deep crater under the levee breach..It may have been blown up to destroy the black part of town and keep the white part dry."

That comment has been passed around at work today. There are many here in hotels and apartments and such but I think the one's in shelters have been moved north. Just think if they had actually put them on cruise ships in Galveston like they originally planned to do.:o
