Secondly, among all the rest of us that are not racists there will be certain groups that rather would see a non-colored person elected in order not to upset the racists on whose votes they may depend on.
Despite their rhetoric, I think the Swedish gvmt is pretty racist. Don't they have strict immigration policies in effect to severely restrict the number of "people of color" who enter the country? Not 100% sure on this, but maybe someone else can confirm/refute this policy.

When I first saw Powell speak (circa 1990) I thought, 'that man could be President.'

I'm not so sure, now.

All good points. However; there are quite a few who will give extra points to a smart individule who has risen to the top despite the extra social burdens they may have endured. (tho' I hear that Powell rode the greased track of racial quotas early in his career. --so, he doesn't really fall in my beating overwhelming odds catagory.)

Face it. Both McCain and Powell are candidates of the liberals...not conservatives. If either ran as conservatives...they would lose. Simply because they are not conservatives. Neither the liberals who want them to run or the conservatives would support them when the chips were down. It is just a tactic to split the conservatives enough to elect a real left-winger.
