stv951, how are the Alfa 156s? I'm assuming your talking about the ~1994-present Alfas? They look appealing to me, but I've never heard any actual reliablity comments.

1984 Chevy Cavalier 5 speed. Rusted out rockers, two tone faded paint, couldn't get over 65 MPH... Constant problems...

Hands down, a 1965 Fiat 850 Spyder. Everything that could break did - shift linkage, seat track, window, fan pulley, oil seals and it finally died when the axle shaft gears were worn down so much that it just sat there and wouldn't move.

1971 AMC Matador (exactly like the one Mikey drives on American Chopper)

Haha, my dad had one of those from new, and remembers it fondly. The time he spent rebuilding the engine, then eventually selling it in 4 years. He told me about the 62 hp from 57 cubic inches, and how that was high performance as compared to a "lazy" 500 hp, 505 ci Viper. He also thinks it cornered better than the 944, but I can't imagine that being true, with a rear engine and small tires. Maybe he liked the oversteer.

My mom hated it and complained about the leaky top.

Here's a pic of an Alfa 156 (not mine though)

when started from cold, the engine sounded like a diesel for about 20 seconds

You left out:
In hard turns the front brake lines rub against the rim of the front wheels.

It was a great handling car... when it ran.

'73 VW Squareback-Couldn't go over 60mph w/out melting the seal to the engine. Also carried a 120v battery charger since I couldn't figure out what was up w/ the charging system.

Okay... I wasn't going to admit it... first car was an 1968 Opel Kadette station wagon with a 1.5 and I loved it.
Wedged a 1.9 into it which seized a few years later.

Funny, I've had good luck with Fiats...

Anyway, I'll probably be accused of America bashing, but here are my turkeys in no particular order:

1967 Jeep CJ-5. Something broke on this every week I owned it. Really; I checked through the receipts when I finally sold it. U-joints, wheel bearings, radiator, clutch...it was ceaseless.

1974 Ford Pinto. I guess I shouldn't complain about a car I paid $250 for, but it took another $300+ to get it to pass state inspection only to have the 2.0 blow it's head gasket a few weeks later. Oh, and the cam was missing a lobe, which was pretty common.

1989 Cavalier. This was my wife's car when we got married. While not unreliable, it was so poorly built I couldn't wait to get rid of it. Auto trans shifted to 2nd before the wheels made a full rotation, rust started popping through the doors in less than 4 years, paint started cracking shortly after the warranty expired, window regulator broke, etc. I replaced it at 55,000 miles with a 100,000 mile VW Jetta and both of us couldn't have been happier!

But the worst, without question, and forever etched into my brain is the 1981 Dodge Charger 2.2. I owned it exactly 30 days before passing it on to another poor slob, in which time it left me sit motionless twice for two seperate problems. Not to mention it didn't handle worth squat and was already starting to rust (I think it was about 5 years old at the time). I've sworn off Mopars since.
