Peugeot 505: Had the trans rebuilt and then motor died.
Ford Escort: Filled the gas tank and the motor blew up.

1998 Dodge RAM 2500 Crew Cab w/ the big V8 and a 5-speed.

Utter, complete, total POS.

1989 AMC Eagle Premiere. $200 car after my brother totalled my Grand Prix.

I've seen three Premiere's driving around, ever. I'm surprised any of them run at all. One was up in Madison, one in the middle of nowhere, NE, the other was mine after I sold it off. yikes.

'85 olds omega 2.5L or maybe '88 Old Delta 88 307. Both gutless and gray.

I honestly don't remember what model year it was - late 80's early 90's anyway - Mitsubishi small size pickup. It had something like 250k miles on it.

My father-in-law passed away and had just bought this piece of crap from some side of the road schyster used car lot. Anyway, after a couple months, mom-in-law couldn't deal with it anymore so we went and gave the stealer something in the neighborhood of $1000+ to get the title. I don't think I had it a month before the motor blew. Got $350 from some guy to take it off my hands (it actually had some decent wheels on it).

Didn't bother me one bit to see it go.

1980 Volkswagen Rabbit Diesel

Slow..

Very Slow. Beater car from who knows where as it had a block heater and an AM/Shortwave with one speaker. You turned on the A/C and it blew hot air. The car had that weird outgassed vinyl smell.

had constant problems with water accumulating in the fuel, it overheated a lot, and it was ugly.

One day my friends and I cut the roof off emulating the seminal 80's skateboarding classic "Thrashin" in a moment of utter boredom in the garage. I subsequently bent the car in half driving it offroad.

1962 Corvair....Pure and utter DEATH WISH......

1981'ish Audi 5000 diesel. Terrible gas mileage, and so slow that I had to turn off the A/C to pull away from a stoplight.

95 Bmw 318i what a piece of crap.

1981 Datsun pickup truck. Had some corrosion in the gas tank. Even multiple fuel filters couldn't keep that crap out of the carburetor. I had to remove the cover on the float bowl about once a week and hose it out with carburetor cleaner to keep it running. And I had to push start it most of the time.

Funny this topic came up. yesterday in Barnes n Noble , I was flipping through a book called "Crap Cars". written my some british writer from Motor Trend or one of those rags. While some of his picks are definately noteworthy, his pick for #1 worst car of all time is the VW Beetle.
Hmm... perhaps theres some leftover bitterness from WWII??
Of all the cars Ive owned, my Beetles(6 of them) were some of the most reliable vehicles i've had.

1985 Plymouth Turismo "Duster" -- Not a week went by without a maintenance issue.

1985 MB 300D -- My father sold it to me just as all of the big maintenance items were due. (And it was expensive to fix for a college student.)

1985 Chevy S10. The floor had rotted out, so I riveted in some sheet steel. Suddenly the doors closed right and it handled better. It had a short in the main wiring harness somewhere between the fuel injectors and the engine computer. It would blow a fuse whenever it rained. The cost to pull the engine just to trace the short was more than I paid for it so I donated it to the American Lung Association.

1987 944S -- Had an engine fire while I was driving it. No, flames do not make the car go faster.

When I was ready to trade it in I offered to take up a collection at work. If my buddies could match the trade-in value, we would have driven it up to the woods to the top of a cliff I know of. The plan was to spend a day getting drunk and shooting it full of holes, then to light it on fire and push it off. My co-workers that had not shared my years of frustration with that little POS opined that my plan was somewhat environmentaly irresponsible and refused to help. I was deadly serious...

1985 BMW 735i. Should have know it was a turd. It was mint when I bought it for next to nothing. After a week the central locking went out, 2 weeks the head gasket blew, 3rd gauges all died, 4th the tranny would only go in reverse, 5th found out the crank bearing was worn away and damaged the block. Ended up investing $3000 and sold it for what I paid.

My two worst cars I've owned:
1972 VW Fastback - nevermind the rain, even if the humidity level reached a scant 50% that car wouldn't start!

1981 Plymouth Turismo TC-3. The clutch, alternator, H2O pump, steering rack, door locks, turn signal stalk, and countless other things 'went' on the car during my 2 year tenure with it.

IIRC, the Rabbit diesel was always last in the car magazines' 0-60 rankings. I think the Rabbit came in at 22 or 23 seconds.

interesting! i have a 96 model. i cant get rid of it, because it wont ever quit. i havent even burnt out a lightbulb.

my POS was a 1984 jeep cherokee. 4cyl. i think i could only go 60 on the freeway. it died a deserving death.

While working as a sales rep just out of college I drove a series of comapny cars over a 5 year period. All American sedans...Ford Taurus, Pontiac Grand Prix, some Dodge thing. All were complete crap, even though they were all brand new. Never been to the shop so many times.

This experience was after owning a used Acrua that I put 100K miles on in college, and I beat that thing like a rented mule. Had to change the brake pads and the oil a few times but that was about it.

I'm convinced that if it weren't for tariffs placed on foreign cars, the "big three" would have gone out of business completely.

My worst was my first: a lemon yellow 1972 AMC Hornet. I still haven't forgiven my mom for that one!!!

I have only owned a handful of cars in my life..I tend to keep em awhile. I would say my 92 Corrado VR6 was alternately the most and least enjoyable vehicle to own. Every ****ing day it was something new. I banged my head against the wall with it for 4 years, but it was sure fun to drive when everything was working correctly.

That blows his credibility right there; as if being British wasn't enough in the first place.

I currenly have two Bugs, a '70 standard and a '71 Super. The '70 is my daily driver and the '71 is my 17 year old son's. We drove the Super cross country from Eau Claire, Wisconsin to Seattle, Washington this summer and had a ball. I keep buying newer cars so I have something to work on. My wife gets the new stuff, I get all the headaches associated with them. My son and I just keep driving our Bugs. I swear, the last running car on earth will be a Bug...

Worst = 1972 Mustang (trunk rotted out)
Second worst=1998 Dodge Dakota bought new and was back at the dealership 8 times before I bailed and bought a used '99 Tacoma 4x4 (which I still have and have had zero problems with)

I too owned 2 bugs back in high school in the early 80's (plus I just picked one up for free from a family member in Texas). I really loved my VW's even though they were slow and had basically no heat in the winter (due to my lack of funds to buy new heat exchangers back then). Niether of my bugs ever left me stranded and both were highly abused non-maintained cars when I got them!

Worst- 63 Chevy P/U with a short in the electrical that no one could find.I finally sold it to a guy for next to nothing who swore he could fix it and 1 week later I saw it sitting dead on the side of the road.

Best-88 FJ62 LandCruiser. Used to be my daily driver, but the gas was killing me. Fixed it up to sell 3 months ago and still can't bring myself to put it on the market. Easy to work on, runs forever, I might just have to keep it.

1990 TOYOTA 4RUNNER
4 wires in bundle passing between door and A pillar broke-that was fun to investigate.
Could not start with ignition key-took to dealer three times, replaced starter 3 times, I finally just put a push buttton bypass switch in.

Tranny died, rebuilt it for $3000, and then it started leaking. Fixed at dealer and leaked within 2 days. Next dealer says the real issue is the output shaft is bad and cause all the problems and wanted $4K to fix.

Spent $5000 on a vehicle in two years and sold for $5k less than I bought.

Bought a Subaru.

'78 Ford Country Squire Station Wagon...the last of the big ones. Pale yellow w/ fake wood paneling...wire wheel knock-offs. Passed down to me at the age of 16. Two blown trannies and one blown engine within 2 years.

Thinking I was immortal may have had something to do with it.

1975 VW Wabbit. Hands down. It had a list of woes too long to list here...actually, it was Cindy's car. Then we jumped out of the frying pan into the fire with a Mitshubishi product, a plymouth champ...I soon dubbed it a "japanese wabbit"...

No, but I jumped a Buick Delta 88. Over a pitcher's mound at a local high school ball field. Sliding sideways, trying to stop before the backstop...

'77 Chevy vega with the aluminum block 4 cyliner engine. Those engines lasted about as long as a 74-77 2.7 911 engine before needing a rebuild.

Had an '89 Dodge Daytona Shelby Z. It was fast for its day, could pass anything but a repair shop! This car was more unreliable than my MG Midget! Had the Daytona for 6 years and every three months like clockwork, something went wrong. It was never the same problem twice.

Was that the one with the porthole window in the side?

Is anyone noticing a trend here? Majority of them are American cars and thats sad to see.

I have not owned a POS car in a long time but then have been driving 911's for 20 years now. Last really bad one was a BMW 328 over in Germany. Rustbucket it was and thats not allowed over there.

1997 Chevy 1500 ext-cab truck. Lost the A/C, fuel injection, tranny all within a 3 month period after buying new. Yeah, built real tough....POS

I did that once to a LeBaron convertible full of co-eds at my college. Those spoiled sorority girls looked so perfect and prissy that summer with the convertible top down while I was stuck driving a Sherwin-Williams delivery 1986 Chevy Van with worn rings. The exhaust pipe was aimed right at the interior, so I dropper 'er in neutral and revved the engine like mad. Needless to say their perfect hair must have reeked of Pennzoil for days. :D

I later put that POS van to its grave by accidentally slipping past "D" and "N" into "R". when speed shifting up through the auto tranny selector. I was rewarded with a brand new Ford Econoline with air conditioning! :)
