I don't think being a minority makes you a victim of anything except numbers. The only things I can think of that are truly discriminatory are things like the United Negro College Fund, Jet Magazine, Black Entertainment Television, and Miss Black America. Try to have things like the United Caucasian College Fund, Cloud Magazine, White Entertainment Television, or Miss White America; and see what happens...Jesse Jackson will be knocking down your door.

We did not go to the aid of certain foreign countries and risk our lives in wars to defend their freedoms, so that decades later they could come over here and tell us our constitution is a living document; and open to their interpretations.

I especially disagree with the anti-immigrant ones. Less the Natives, we are a country made up of Immigrants. Imagine the Author's Great Great Great Great Great Great Grandfather coming from a European country that does not speak English, should he have been booted?

Alf, you are missing the point. My parents are both from immigrants (one of them literally came over on a boat from Germany). They came to America and learned to speak English. They didn't expect special handouts, loans, or bilingual instructions.

It is tough to live in the US without speaking English and it behooves any immigrant to do learn it, my mom did. But to make it a requirement for citizenship? Many of our fellow citizens will fail, even ones born and raised here.

Despite the dubious source, i have to admit that i do agree with many of the sentiments. Not all.

Alas, the fact that the e-mail was sent to me as an Andy Rooney quote does diminish its integrity. I have seen where things are passed on (similar to the game of "Telephone") where someone embellished on the story trying to make it more appealing. After all, how many people would read and forward an e-mail that was titled "Joe says..."?

Sadly enough, I find my self in agree with most of the statements in the original post.

Probably makes me an intolerant racist, but don´t get me started with Muslim immigrants.

They come to Sweden. Are handed homes and money and demand we shall accept all their Muslim traditions.

I spent a lot of time in Saudi Arabia and Yemen in the eighties. My father worked as a pediatrician there. Just as an example of their Muslim intolerance - when at Christmas we put up a little figure of Santa in the Christmas tree - we where all but evicted from the country. Why ?? Muslim tradition / law.

For God sake (wait I am not religious), they come here and put up a surprised face when we arrest them for slaughtering their own 13 years old daughter because she kissed a Swedish boy and thereby insulted the family honor.

So, where in lies the intolerance ??

People like this drive me nuts. I heard it explained best not long ago: when a group moves to a new locale, and adopts their way of life (language, culture, etc.) it is called immigration. when a group moves to a new locale, and maintains their old way of life (language, culture, etc.) it is called colonization.

Sorry, but I don't want to be colonized! Send them back home if they don't want to live like Americans!!!

On the English thing, i think any sensible immigrant tries to learn English. Do realize that learning a new language is not easy and it takes time. The degree of proficiency achieved is also mixed.

Most Adult immigrants from any country that did not speak English have problems there. Italians, Germans, Polish, Spanish, Chinese, Hungarians, Norwegians, Japanese, Austrians, Mexicans, etc .

Did your ancestors immigrate from England or one of its colonies?

Believe in God? Which one?
