Howard Stern has jumped the shark!
The post about satellite radio has got me wondering about Howard and his long term future. Having been a "listener" for many years, I found my interest in him has slowly and surely died out. I can't trace it to a single event, but I would generally point to his foray into bachelorhood and becoming every thing that he would, at earlier times, make fun of; (Old men dating younger women, entertainers becoming too self important, etc.) Sure He was funny at times, but that was only after weeding between segments of strippers feeding his ego.
I've had XM Radio for almost 5 years now and they recently have added Opie and Anthony for free with the subscription. I can honestly say, I have not laughed so hard in my car. These guys are funny without the agenda that Howie brings to the airwaves. Sure, they have a chip on their shoulder and their not afraid to admit it. But if your looking to laugh without all the preaching, they are definitely a nice option. |
I think around the time the movie 'Private Parts' came out was when his ego started to grow larger than Manhattan.

I've been listening to Stern for years, and I agree that his head inflated quite a bit but the show still cracks me up in the car at least a couple times a week.
My new daily driver has SIRIUS installed so I'm gonna give it a try for a year and see how it is Fart jokes still make me laugh |
I always laugh when people claim he's intelligent "because he's making more money than most will ever dream of". Huh? Since when is that indicator of intelligence? The guys an idiot with huge nuts and no sense of pride or shame. It's a combination that sells.
Sure I've listened and laughed at times, but I'de laugh at a monkey tossing his feces around for a while too. |

The first sign of shark jumpage is when jumping media, ie TV -> movie or vice-versa. By jumping from radio to the big screen, Howard jumped the shark, a dolphin and a duck-billed platypus.

But he is the "King of All Media"...

Yes it does. I listen for those great moments when actors or actesses or some sort of star is brave enough to go on his show. Howard is not afraid to cross the line and ask the bad questions. If anyone heard the Pam Anderson interview you would understand I sat with my mouth hanging open in amazement. His show is pretty lame right now. It is obvious the FCC has done its job shutting him down. He is costantly being dumped here for "offensive" material. A couple of times Gary has run into the room to tell him to stop talking because they have run out of delay time. I signed up for a year of Sirius like Vin and will see how it is. He is actually for the first time in his career being aboe to produce his own show. He has been given free reign. This should be good. As for O&A, they were fired from a NYC radio Station for having a contest and convincing a couple to have sex in a church. There are many imitators in the radio world. Howard imitated Imus and tons have imitated them. It takes a real A-hole to go on the air and spew hatred towards the show that you are basically copying. I am not sure why they have to cause such a rabid hatred for Howard its actually predictable, as soon as someone mentions XM they automatically yell out O&A and that Hopward sucks. Liek they have been programmed to say that. I listened to O&A and a majority of what makes them funny is the fact that they can say what they want without FCC interferance. If you like O&A look up Lex and Terry our of Jacksonville Florida there are tons of duo teams doing this stuff. Lex and Terry do DBF (Drunk B!tch Fridays) which is great. http://www.lexandterry.com/ |
O&A Party Rock!!!!
:D Only wish they would stop talking about how great Satellite Radio is. I have had XM for years and all the channels do it - (I'm already a subscribed, dammit!) - but they seem to take it to the extreme. The rest of the show is a riot. |

I lost interest in Howard shortly after he left NBC. His skits had me laughing so hard I'd practically crap my pants while driving home from work.
Some classics were: - Beaver Cleaver showing up to school with a machine gun - Calling mothers who caught their son with porn and blaming Howard - "LaPenis" binocular advertisements - Donna "the Douche" Fiducia (Now on Fox) The highlight for me was when I was invited to his last Lingirie Christmas party. Five chickies and me in the studio with Howard and Robin. :D |
I could never take more than 5 minutes of the guy, espescially when his "Supporting Cast" would start sucking up and kissing his a$$. Really pathetic even though he's their "Meal ticket"
|
Am I the only one who doesn't care much for Baba booie? He seems like the ultimate suck ass.
|
When I lived in NYC in 89-91, I listened to him every day. Absolutely brilliant. I tried tuning in recently, and it's a pale shadow in comparison.
Or maybe it's that I'm 38 instead of 23... |
Geez I stopped listening to the guy when I stopped listening to the radio while getting dressed for school in the morning. I think that was 6th grade or so.
|
he is smart. once he does a crankcall bit, or racist bit with daniel carver, i switch stations. i dont find that stuff remotely funny. but his regular stuff cracks me up. i like how we are part of the regular business of running the show. nothing is sacred. reality radio. whatever, i am not ready to grow up, and i like the other guy still thinks fart jokes are funny.
and robin drives a porsche. |
never thought he was funny. maybe its an east coast thing...

Anybody ever seen the old Stuttering John interviews they used to do? Man, I thought those were a riot.
