Death for free porn
Here's an interesting article about an amateur porn BBS that offers soldiers free access if they post pictures of mangled bodies in Iraq.
Interesting Article Ya don't get this stuff on reality tv. Dan

Not sure what Fintstone will say, but doing so would be a violation of military law and subject to punishment under UCMJ. Depending on interpretation, it might also fall under the catagory of a war crime.

So far as I'm concerned, I would thank the soldiers for posting those pictures on the web without the barter arrangement. So I'm not going to judge those that posted them in trade for wanking material.
I think the pictures themselves should serve as a sobering reminder of what happens in war. Further, given the amount of censorship and control imposed on the media, I agree with the interviewed web site administrator that, at the very least, "It's an unedited look at the war from their point of view". So.. extending your logic we should publicize photos of corpses from Katrina to protest global warming or the ineptitude of local authorities in their response to the devastation? Or perhaps post pictures of homicide victims?
If you really want an unedited look at war, see your local recruiter. |

In general, no one needs to see photos of dead bodies.
In general, everyone needs to see at least a little internet porn.

You are correct in your statement about logic extension. However, if we examine the facts applicable to both situations, you'll see the difference in your example. Nobody lied about Katrina to get us involved with a hurricane. Not so in Iraq! I don't know if global warming is a contributing factor to increased hurricane activity or not, but the ineptitude exhibited should be classified as gross negligence. They want to prosecute the owners of that nursing home where 30-some people died. I think the politicians should be investigated and prosecuted where necessary as well. (Where's Ken Starr when you really need him?) As far as my local recruiter is concerned, BTDT...how about you? Had the War in Iraq occurred in 1976, I'd have been shooting Iraqis with the same enthusiasm as our guys do right now. That's what they are trained to do. Good for them. But, I think the rest of us should have access to the truth. And we're not getting the truth from the government or the media. Read Generation Kill by Evan Wright. It is a candid look at how the invasion of Iraq was prosecuted by a USMC Recon unit from the 1st Marine Division. The pics posted at that porn web site simply illustrate graphically what is going on there. If it's too ugly for you, maybe you shouldn't suport the war. Dan

Believe me, I know something about ground truth... been over there twice and have about five times more military service than you can claim.
Looking at it in another light – what about the facts. State and local governments have known for generations that the levies were a weak point. Louisiana has received generous amounts of federal money to construct a safety system to prevent the type of tragedy that just happened. Unfortunately, it didn't work as planned. So, using your logic, I can protest my indignation at the state of Louisiana officials who took the funds and promised to protect the good people in their jurisdiction. The fact that they "LIED" to us that we would be protected is reason enough to post pictures of bloated corpses, or whatever else we wanted to use to shock others into rage against any real or perceived slight. As far as the truth is concerned – if you don’t believe the media or the government, then are you saying that you’d rather believe the terrorists? |

We got to see bloated bodies rolling around in the surf on the news after the tsunami hit earlier. What's the difference other than one tragedy happened here and the other far away?
Where did the "believe the terrorsts" thing come from? I commented on seeing a point of view of the war not tainted by media bias. That viewpoint was provided by our service men. It had nothing to do with terrorists. Dan

So, it's now ok for corpses to be shown on the media or web? Perhaps it would be different if it were one of your family members? How would you like to be the parents of Daniel Pearl, for example, or maybe Nicholas Berg? Personally I find it demeaning and in bad taste.
You don't think that terrorists relish the fact that images of be-headed, hacked up, and mutilated corpses from Iraq/Afghanistan add to the anti-war propaganda effort? Perhaps you need to visit some of the radial islamic websites to really understand their message. I find it odd that it's roughly the same message being repeated by our media: "More of your soldiers will die" "You can't win" "Leave - Go back to your country" Once on the web it's all there for the picking. |

The media ought to crucify Dubya for his secretive policies. Genglemen and ladies, this is the United States of America. Until recently, we've had a free press. Dubya prefers a free pass. You can defend these secretive policies all you like, and I'm going to call bull****. Yeah, it'd be nice if the government could censure what people hear and see, but if that is your preferred policy, you're living in the wrong country. You guys pretend to favor freedom, but look at what you're saying. It's okay in your mind for the government to only let us see and hear what they want us to see and hear? Don't take this tac with me, and then pretend you're for freedom and democracy.

Perhaps you’d prefer the “secretive policies” of someone such as Stalin? Our government isn’t in the business of censuring people which disagrees with it. If it did do you really think you’d still be alive? I mean you have over 10,000 posts to this bbs alone and who knows what else you’ve spewed out on the web.
If you’re really that paranoid, you better look outside quick to see if there’s a car with dark tinted windows out there monitoring your every action…. Get real! |

Hell there are already thousands of images of dead Iraqis on the internet. Here is what I got from just typing "dead Iraqi" into google search:
Images Results 1 - 20 of about 3,020 for dead iraqi. (0.09 seconds) We NEED to keep free porn on the internet!

For those of you good Americans who want pictures of dead war combatants on the internet to protest the war I have two words for you:
GENEVA CONVENTIONS. Read them. In no way should pictures of dead combatants be broadcast for any reason. End of story.

Cut and pasted from the Geneva Conventions:
Art. 34. Remains of deceased 1. The remains of persons who have died for reasons related to occupation or in detention resulting from occupation or hostilities and those or persons not nationals of the country in which they have died as a result of hostilities shall be respected, and the gravesites of all such persons shall be respected, maintained and marked as provided for in Article 130 of the Fourth Convention, where their remains or gravesites would not receive more favourable consideration under the Conventions and this Protocol. As far I know there isn't a footnote that says "Unless you think the remains would further your political agenda."
