Too bad it's a Pontiac...
Last night my daughter was watching TV and called me in to the room to see an ad for Pontiacs new car, the Solstice.
It's a two seat roadster with nice curves, speedster humps and a nice looking interior. It's a pig at 2,800 pounds and only 170 HP. And of course it's still a Pontiac. My guess is that for $20,000 we'll be seeing a few of these on the road. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

I think it looks sharp. Hope I am not disappointed in how it really looks when it hits the showroom floors. If they can keep the price locked in at $20K the Miata will finally have some competition.

is this the finished model or a prototype? if it is the former, I'm sure there will be a few things "lost in translation". also, somehow I don't think that Pontiac would sit on their laurels too long before upping the hp figures. the Crossfire comes to mind

I used to like Pontiac...until they came out with the Knight Rider generation Firebird. Then it was a long downhill ride.
Hopefully they're waking up.

Rest assured that while the car is new, the mfg. will ease out production units to keep the price artificially inflated. Remember the Miata, PT Cruiser, S2000, and other hot sellers. Simple supply and demand. The price will level out after its been out for 6 mos. to a year.
The car made its TV debut on The Apprentice. It is a finished product, ready for sale, and currently taking orders now.

I figured this would show up here today.
![]() The stylist(s) did a nice job for Pontiac. . ..obviously stealing design elements from that hot-looking Pontiac Aztec. ![]() No, seriously, they did a good job. I feel sorry for them having to incorporate that fugly red Pontiac "arrow" badge, up front. Nice shape, but not likely to wear well. . . or perform well. But of course, that's not the point. They just want to move'm off the show-room floor.

This was a Lutz Special, IIRC. What's silly is that they've been working on it for YEARS.
And now I heard that The Rick has moved Lutz off of product stuff. Doesn't matter, GM will disappear in the next 10 years anyway.

I will buy nothing GM. Why? Because EVERY GM vehicle is "black box" equipped. GM is the big brother of car makers...

![]() I agree, its nice looking but an under-powered pig. Not a bad design for a Pontiac though.... |

The back end is looking very nice but the front end needs more work, it looks like a big insect.

I think it's a great looking car, and the two Pontiac ads I saw on Apprentice last night were by far the best American car ads I've ever seen. But beyond the looks and great marketing, it'll be just another Pontiac. Heavy, gutless, and in a local Hertz rental car lot near you.

I can't help but remember the Fiero. This IS sharp looking, and it's being a pig at 170 hp and 2800 lbs makes me feel depressed about my SC's similar power to weight ratio. Knowing that they will sell like hotcakes and become commonplace makes me feel a little better though. haha

I'm seriously considering getting one of these to replace my recently deceased 944S. There is a 'performance' version out next year (specs not yet released).
Lutz has personally been going after dealerships that have been gouging (selling above MSRP) as they can be ordered now for July delivery. The pictures are the actual production version. The first batch of 1000 is manual-only. The engine is a 2.4 liter with a 10.6/1 compression ratio and variable valve timing. It uses oiled chains instead of timing belts. You can get it without AC, without power windows, and so on. http://www.solsticeforum.com/forum/index.php?

I read somewhere that the front suspension was basically taken straight out of the WRX.

Slap a Turbo in it and it could be some serious fun.
I like it. Like to see a fastback coupe version. Scott
