Kudos for Homeland Defense...

Anyone catch the news about New York this morning? In the midst of the Katrina debacle it's nice to know that someone in the government is doing a good job. It appears that the FBI/CIA/Homeland Defense guys are in the process of thwarting a plot to bomb the subways in NY, similar to the London bombings. Saw it on the Today show this morning. Kudos.

So let me get this straight Widebody...

(I know I'm reading a lot into your smiley here.)

If Homeland Security thwarts a terrorist attack, it was obviously staged to distract the media...but if they don't, it just shows how incompetent they are.

Damn GW, making up . . .Oh wait, that one was under Clinton, so it must be legit.

Seriously, why do you knee-jerk respond with doubt to the story? It's not like he said GW was out for a jog, when he saw a guy slipping on a wired hotdog vest.

It might be that NYC/NYPD that deserves more credit, considering that Homeland Defense is calling the intelligence of "doubtful credibility". http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2005/10/07/earlyshow/living/main924563.shtml

Every time Bush slips in the polls, and support for Iraqnam wanes, we get these unspecified "terror threats"- like the 10 GWB claims were thwarted. The plan is to keep you scared so you won't question anything the Adminstration does to 'protect' you, like the patriot act, torturing random people, invading various countries, etc.

Thank you for the enlightenment Mr. Gribble.

NYC certainly deserves some credit for implementing the safeguards and making sure their population is safe. But you gotta give some credit to the FBI/Homeland defense for getting the info out to the proper sources and taking the action. According to MSN.com, they also arrested 3 suspected terrorists in Iraq a few days ago in conjunction with the plot. Apparently these guys had been trained in explosives in Afghanistan and were planning to travel to NYC and execute the plot.

Just a stark reminder that there are still folks out there who want to kill Americans on a large scale.

Reminds me of that movie "wag the dog"

The above does seem to be a pattern though.

AH; now I get it. Bush planned and planted all this "9/11 terrorist" thing.

First Clinton with his cigars -n- bush . . . now Bush with smoke -n- mirrors.

Yes, the old "you must be stupid because you don't agree with me".

You need more practice, you didn't manage to use the words "intolerant" or "close-minded".

Oh come on guys...you gotta be kidding me. Your immediate reaction to this story being reported by multiple major news sources is that it's all a hoax drummed up by Bush to scare everyone? Think about that next time you accuse one of the conservatives on the board of reading a "crackpot right wing newsletter" or "wearing a tin foil hat".

So I missed the story: What was "thwarted"? Did they find a bunch of explosives, maps and train schedules? A van full of potassium nitrate in the parking lot? A gaggle of obvious terrorists milling around with "hot-dog" vests?

Not saying something was not averted but it is pretty simple to say something was done when in reality nothing was.

A story reported by multiple sources doesn't lend anything to it's credibility. If it was investigated and corroborated by multiple sources, now you have something.

Here is a chart with Bush's poll numbers superimposed on the terror level and IraqNam events; I couldn't find an updated copy of it.

I'm sorry, are you saying that you would rather wait until the terrorists are down in the tunnels with the bombs BEFORE you want them to do anything? Give me a break.
