"The Founding Fathers were right...There is no provision in the Constitution that allows the state to fund propaganda, especially propaganda that argues against our Founding Fathers' ideals."

You're so right, but enough about the current administration. :-). What do you think about NPR?

If NPR had anything of value to say they could operate without taxpayer funding. Either all radio stations should be funded or none.

I listen to NPR frequently. I especially like the Tappet Brothers, Click and Clack (Car Talk), and Peter Schickele (PDQ Bach). I listen sometimes to understand my Mother's point of view, as she's a raging liberal (a lovely lady with a skewed political viewpoint). The no commercial, classical music can be very soothing during traffic, and some of the foriegn news outlets give an interesting perspective to events. When I get tired of the leftist crap I just slip in some kid rock or eminem or rage against the machine, drop down a gear or two and leave the traffic behind. Our local station (WAMC) just sponsored and built a very nice, smaller concert hall.

NPR is okay in measured doses. And yes, Mom guilts me into contributing.

mulhollandose,

I'm sorry, but you are totally f#cking delusional if you REALLY think NPR is pro-communist/islamofascist (nice O'reilly/Savage buttboy term). How old and out of touch can you get, with your OBSESSION with imaginary communists?

Are you trying to be an even bigger caricature than those you idolize?

I listen every day on the way to and from work. On occasion, when the black guy (Fox's lefty) or the old guy (Daniel Shore?) are on, I have to change the station so as not to blow chunks on the SC's dash but most of the time I tolerate the lefty slant. I enjoy some of the stories that are off the beaten news path.

Wait wait wait... When you get sick of a LEFT slant, you put RATM on!? Granted it's been a few years since I listened to them (they're broken up now, aren't they?) but they're WAY left! Like, REALLY WAY left!

I agree - Daniel Shore (sp?) is the one voice on NPR that I simply can't listen to. He's got a vibe that says "I'm incredibly bitter and should have retired 10 years ago." He seems to believe his work during the McCarthy era entitles him to pick apart any R-sponsored legislation or politician, while saying Sandy Berger's not such a bad guy if you understand him.

I'm really surprised there seems to be general consensus that NPR is left-of-center. Seems obvious to me, but this is very un-OTlike. Anyone want to argue that it's not?

Sorry, but fictional works have always been more popular than documentaries. Examples: Steven King vs Stephen Hawking. Bible vs Origin of the Species.

Car Talk is the show that got me listening to NPR. Then I started listening to the news shows during the week. I am a moderate with a libertarian slant. The left slant on NPR used to bother me a tiny bit, but it doesn't any more because it has pretty much gone away. I really noticed a big difference over the last couple years.

Also NPR seems much more consistent in their new coverage. The for profit media sways with the public mood. When Bush was real popular the majority of the news coverage was positive, and now that he is unpopular they are going after him more. I think they are trying to give the public what they want. It's more entertainment then news. I don't see this much with NPR.

I do think we ought to stop funding NPR and PBS, but do it slowly so they have time to build other sources of funding. Cutting it off all at once like many Republicans wanted to do this year is just wrong.

At least we on the philosophical right pretend to fight for smaller government and the Constitution, the left does not. Look at the brightside, you will not see a Republican rounding up, wholesale, all dark skinned into concentration camps like FDR did to the Japanese...Nor will you see communist spies in high levels of government like under FDR and Truman.

I agree with your post above, however, the Patriot Act has been administered justly...I submit because we have a good man in the office. There is no way I would trust those powers in the hands of a Hillary Clinton, a John Kerry or an Al Gore.

CALEA?...Love that Bill Clinton gem, talk about Big Brother.

Maybe in literature, but not in news...Compare Smear America, for example, to Rush Limbaugh...Compare NPR to any conservative radio...Compare FoxNews to any cable news network...The truth sells. I wish ABC,cBS,NBC,CNN would get the picture, alas their agenda is more important than truth or rating for that matter.

Nope. Pointing out the lies in Conservative media is somewhat of a cottage industry. I'll bet some college campuses have an O'Reilly/Limbaugh drinking game, where you have to drink every time either one of them lies.

Daniel Shore makes me want to stab my Blaupunkt.

Though he shocked the hell out of me when he commented on Libya ditching their nuke research. He implied that something Bush had done might've had a possibly non-negative effect.

This is true! Our Babson intern was talking about this recently.

Personally, I can't wait to buy one of Bill O'Reilly's suits. or any other of the oddball, Roncoesque products that Hannity, OReilley, Ingram hawks on their radio programs. Doesn't that say anything to you guys on the Right in terms of credibility?

these guys are sensational for one reason only: they get rich off of poor saps like you tuning in, buying their products, books, etc.

it's OK to be Right, conservative, etc., same as it is to hold strong liberal beliefs. It's a whole other thing to think that (left and right) rush, sean, laura, bill, tavis, al, michael, etc. are doing ANYTHING other than making money by lying to you.

So the belief you subscribe to is news credibility is measured by their ambiguity, i.e., the more they pretend objectivity the more objective they must be?

It makes sense that Democrats are lying, as well as their ambiguous counterparts in the shadowy bowels of editorial boards...but that does not necessarily reflect reportage accuracy, or lack thereof, in Republican media.
