Viewing video at track

I have a minidv camera with firewire and laptop with firewire. I'd like to view the footage, while at the track, on my laptop screen.
Not interested in actually "capturing" the video to my laptop, just viewing it.

I wouldn't have thought this would be difficult to accomplish, but I can not find a way to do it. All the video editing software I found use small windows to view the footage. I want/need full screen with sound. But, I don't want to have to capture first.

Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks,
Skip

You can't just play in WindowsMedia?...It should be really simple...I have a Canon still camera with small video capability, I upload with the provided Canon software and play full screen.

I've tried WMP... But, I think, it requires uploading or capturing the video first. I just want to press play on my camera and have the video show on my screen... if possible.

See if maybe this will work for you: http://www.videolan.org/ - it should just stream the vid to a window. If not... QuickTime Broadcaster might do it.

Edit: Quick search didn't turn up a QT Broadcaster for Windows... it might exist but maybe they're just directing me to the OSX site?

I have a Sony digital 8 camcorder, and it came with this "Pixela" s/w. The i/f is crap, but it does let me play the camera back thru the PC and adjust the window size.

Thanks guys!!!

Bryan, the VideoLan VLC product does exactly what I need. Setup was easy and works with my camera. And, you just can't beat it's price!
