Is anyone else into BMW 2002s?
I saw a beautiful orange one yesterday afternoon. I just love the shape of these cars. Like 911s, they're works of art on wheels. I've never driven one nor owned one but someday I will (not anytime soon though). I bet they're a blast to drive. Does anyone here have first hand experience with these classic autos?

I like them, not sure if I'd get one.
The BMW 2002 version of the M-coupe (well, without the "M" bit) http://www.bmwinfo.com/pictures/00448.jpg |
Always liked the 2002, especially the TI and TII versions...

I've never seen a 2002 touring before. I've always liked hatchbacks.

It was an orange tii that I saw yesterday. The owner did a heck of a job restoring the car. Or, maybe he bought it already restored. Either way, it was sweet. I wonder how rare those cars are now.

With the old, "bottlecap" wheels:

Metric Mechanic 5spd tii brakes and Bilsteins all 'round Front and rear strut braces Immaculate interior w/ new seats from Aardvarc North of $20k in the body alone. All that's left is finding the right LSD and tinting the windows. Yeah, you could say I'm into 2002s. :D JP |
That is one beautiful car you've got JP! Actually all three look sweet. I'm in envy!
|
Thanks!
If I could keep only one 4-wheeled toy, it would be the 2002; no doubt. Especially with the power of the 2.5 liter, it is the most fun and best all-round toy I've got. It isn't hyperbole to say that the '02 built BMW and w/o it there would be no BMW as we know it today. JP |
i think 2002 are cool, but nothing can compare to the 3.0CSI. now that car is sweet. and is currently my most desired car, well tied with a 69 Z28.

Saw a silver 2002 today on the freeway - looked awesome.
I drove a used 2002 in 1979 (I was 17) that I wanted to buy but could not afford. I remember it cruised at 80 on freeway. Worried it might be a let down now to get one. I'm off to the internet to check prices...:) |
Vash -- 3.0CS (family) are verrrrry cool; and I almost bought one 3 years ago. However, if I did so, it'd be next to impossible for me to justify buying the the next BMW on my shopping list: an '87 or '88 M5... tweaked. Now THAT is one freaking heck of a BMW.

The 3.0csi looks like a James Bond car doesn't it?

no way, i would take a 3.0 over any new beemer. oh except a new M3 or the six series coupe. i want one bad!
|
My next car will be a 2002. I have a m10 in my 318i and love it. These motors love boost and are bullet proof. By far the easiest motor I've ever worked on.
Before I die I WILL have a 2002 turbo or replica. |
I had a 69 from 1981 to 1995. Restored it and it was a delight. Go for a TII with AC if you can find it.
|
Anyone with suggestions of online places to research and shop for a 2002tii and/or a 3.0csi?

David, check out this site. Scroll down towards the bottom for listings.

Also check the forum at www.bmw2002faq.com (when/if the site comes back up).
They are really fun cars, easy to work on, and parts are (relatively) cheap. A whole different driving experience than any other car I've driven. I've had mine 20 years, and don't ever plan to sell it. |
