Sorry I meant to post this on OT and now I can't delete it.

Thanks Kevin...heads up everybody!

RickM 10-19-2005 09:49 AM

My question: Do any of you account numbers end with 6297?

KevinP73 10-19-2005 10:00 AM

No accounts numbers ending and no account with that bank.
Just for those who may not know how these work. The perp is relying on the victim to use the links provided to log into their account to view the said account transfer. What the victim isn't supposed to know is that the links provided are to mirror sites or bogus sites altogether. Once the victim logs in the crook has all their log in info and can then access the real account. New users and the elderly are the most common victims to this type of scam.

The category of scam is called "phishing" as in fishing for your information.

It's pretty insidious. Most of us have gotten the 'there's a problem with your account' e-mails. This one, confirming a transfer is worse, IMHO, because some people may react without thinking -- using alleged fraud to commit fraud.
