Another bogus e-mail scam

I just recieved this one.



Your request for Express Transfer from your Peoples Bank account to your bank account ending in 6297, has been received and is in process.

This process usually takes 6-8 working hours to complete but is dependent on your account preferences.

If there is a problem with your request, it may take up to one week for your bank to notify us. We will notify you immediately by email if we learn of any problems in processing your request.

No accounts numbers ending and no account with that bank.
Just for those who may not know how these work. The perp is relying on the victim to use the links provided to log into their account to view the said account transfer. What the victim isn't supposed to know is that the links provided are to mirror sites or bogus sites altogether. Once the victim logs in the crook has all their log in info and can then access the real account. New users and the elderly are the most common victims to this type of scam.

The category of scam is called "phishing" as in fishing for your information.

It's pretty insidious. Most of us have gotten the 'there's a problem with your account' e-mails. This one, confirming a transfer is worse, IMHO, because some people may react without thinking -- using alleged fraud to commit fraud.
