Jay Leno + David Donohue = Carrera GT

The press release was finally posted on the wire for Jay Leno’s three standing start records in a Porsche Carrera GT at Talladega Super Speedway over the Labor Day weekend. David Donohue, the son of Mark Donahue who set a series of similar records at Talladega nearly 30 years ago, drove the GT to three flying-speed records for a production car including a closed-course speed record (196.301), measured mile (198.971) and measured kilometer (195.755). While the records were being made Porsche decided to donate the Carrera GT to an auction that will raise money for Hurricane Katrina victims.
I saw this on TV last night, Leno spun five times at about 190 mph and kept it off the track wall. He then went in the other Carrera GT and broke a record.

Leno was talking down his skill the whole time...but the fact that he didn't so much as scratch the paint while spinning at 190 mph told me he has some skill.

Hm.

Leno made a comment about 3 years ago that he doesn't like Porsches because they aren't "man's cars".

Guess he changed his tune?

A V-10 with pleanty of torque changed his mind.

Note: The Carrera GT is the first new car Jay Leno has ever owned.

in the special, the guy on the radio and telling Jay and David the speeds was our very own Haden (WEVO).

That's right, Hayden Burvill was the chief engineer for the event. He was telling me at the German Auto Fest that he got to drive to the track with Norbert Singer. He took the opportunity to ask him some questions about some engineering decisions made by the Factory. How cool would that be?

Hayden is a very humble, low-key guy, but he's quite a talented engineer with lots of reason to boast, but he doesn't. We're very very lucky to have a guy like him posting on this board.
