OT - NSX turned into Ferrari F50 (no 56K)

This is wild (sorry if it's a repost), I just thought their fiberglass skills were awesome, can you say nice RSR jigs?

Excellent work. I've seen NSX's going as low as $16k so I guess there might be a market for this as a kit. I prefer the NSX body design myself though.

Very nice work. Anyone tell where its been done?

My big worry is what happens if its ever hit? Lots of foam and 'glass everywhere.

I posted this link a few months ago hoping someone could explain how it was done. But I didn't get many answers. I was curious about the techniques involved like 1) Are they using the foam just as molds for the 'glass or does the foam stay attached to the car? 2) How do they attach the body panels to the car? 3) Like Joeaksa said, is this safe?

It would seem like a cool way to flare the fenders on a 911 if you had the skills and it was durable and safe.

Of course, ya gotta ask why? I mean the NSX is a pretty premium car to start with. Sure...it will LOOK like a Ferrari when you are done, but what they've really done is destroy a good portion of the value of the car.

Yes, they "build" the body on the stripped chassis out of foam and then make the molds from the foam mock up. Once they have the shape right they apply fiberglass to the outside. Once the fiberglass is set they can then remove the fiberglass and the foam. Then the fiberglass can be used to make fiberglass body panels that will actually go on the car.

Anzures. Maybe I don't understand your question. Ferrari has an F40 and a different car made years later is an F50. I believe the F40 is a tube frame car and the F50 was a monococque(sp) car. So they made an F50 not an F40.

Why couldn't they start with an 2nd gen MR2 or Fiero chasis instead? Would that be cheaper?

Like said above, I also like the look of the NSX.

Well, the NSX is a nice hanlding car with nice wheel dimensions to startwith.

I've seen this one before, but not allthe work behind it. They left only a few hints of it not being a Ferrari, most obvious being the mirrors, lack of slots in the rear, and sidewindow lines.

My guess is to end up with a car that has really good performance, more so than the MR2 or Fiero.

The Fiero chassis is also WAYY to short, and doesn't have nice woudned windsheild. Not a good choice. Most Fiero based replica's are blatnatly ovious without lengthenign the chassis, and doing significant changes to the car.

From the front, theirs looks very good, perhaps as good as the real one, but with obvious difference., but the lack od detail from the rear doesn't look as good.

I don't know, if it was painted different it may actually look more like the real thing.

Yeah, it is some pretty impressive workmanship. But like most such projects, the roofline gives it away -- can't do much about that. And like someone else said here -- NSX is a pretty awesome car without messing with it. Why bother?

Then again, maybe if Honda/Acura actually updated the car every once in a while people wouldn't go to such measures. :-)

Impressive workmanship - but all to make a fake. First time that four-cylinder winds up, everyone's going to KNOW it's fake.
