I would confront the person suspected and/or make a flier and plaster the neighborhood with a $ reward for anyone who comes forward with evidence of who launched (or the capability of) deadly projectiles into your home...maybe contact your neighborhood watch organization (if you have one).

those sling shot balloon launchers can be launched by one person. use your feet to stretch and aim, pull back and launch. you can shoot a balloon over to the next block this way... good for terrorizing dogs and neighborhood kids. they never know where it came from. bricks and rocks... won't go that far, but very effective close range

Wouldn't you risk smacking yourself in the chin with a brick if you did it that way?

Hmm - He (or they) could have used that tree I keep talking about as an anchor point for some type of slingshot - that would explain the angle of trajectory, since it is offset a little to the left.

A hand swung sling (David & Goliath) would have done the same damage.

not lying on your back using both feet, one on each side of the pulls. use your hands to pull back, raise your legs to aim and let fly. now I haven't done this in many years of course. yeah, right.

In my younger days I was much more full of piss and vinegar too - did you know you can hire someone for less than $100 to follow someone around all day? Not do anything - just follow them around... I prefer the mental assault to the physical assault these days. Although showing up with a couple buddies, some duck tape, a shovel and polyproplyne rope at the end of a dark street can get someone attention pretty quickly...

I think we need to have tougher penalties on the possession of rocks and bricks. No person has a legitimate need for these items. A pebble or piece of plastic texturized like a rock or brick would serve the same useful (if any) purpose. At the very least we should have a mandatory 10 waiting period for those wishing to possess rocks and then establish some sort of security mechanism so children don't get hurt if they find an unlocked rock or brick. Felons and people subject t orestaining order or declared mentally incompenent should be precluded from possessing any rock or brick. Statistcs show that rocks and bricks have been linked to violentcrimes throughout the ages. it started with the catapultes in the middle ages. Our founding fathers knew of the use of rocks and bricks and did not include those items into the Bill of Rights. How many more sensless crimes must be committed before the liberals wise up and start passing some rock / brink control laws.

Yep, to get something to embed/go through a window and then drywall like that take a lot of speed. More than I think most people could manage on a brick/rock that size. Definitely something mechanical involved unless the guy is a body building baseball fanatic. Good luck with that. THere are too many crazies in the world.

Good points doc, have you considered talking to the Democrat lawyers lobby?...See, what they will do is demonize rocks and bricks (with the media's help) and once the public is brainwashed enough their ambulance chasing buddies will come in on the white horse of tort law to save the world...At the very least the Democrats will be able to use ties to "big-brick" and "big-rock" as a noose every election cycle to tie around the neck of Republicans.

Guys, can we keep the political bull-s^&t out of this thread? This was a serious attack, and instead of that wall, my head could have been bashed in. I often sit on that muave chair at night around the time the attack occurred. THAT's what scares me most in all this. That and the fact that there is a good possibility that some crazed individual has signaled me out - a rock through the window is one thing - sending it into a house with such force that it is imbedded into a far wall takes it up a notch or two... That said, targa's "Trebuchet...definately trebuchet." is funny. Appreciate the smile it put on my face... For those offering some suggestions - thanks. It seems more clear to me now that the rock wasn't hand thrown. I'll have to go back to my front yard and search for evidence of some type of sling shot device. -Z.

that sucks Z. messing with someones property and family is so far over the line. not cool. my dog just did something similar to my front window, also on halloween. she dove through it to get to a squirrel. she was totally unhurt, but now i have plywood up for at least 6 weeks.

Mul and Doc, I'm a liberal. My neighbor has a whole pile of cinder blocks and I'm not complaining.

Then again, given the size of the rock, and the fact that a brick was thrown into the house as an added measure, I still believe it was NOT a prank. That said, we are going through the window /contractor selection process. Does anyone know how American Jewel window brand compares to Anderson windows? Any suggestions on a good window brand? Thanks, -Z-man.
