Tree pros, can you "train" a 5" branch?
So I've got this really nice oak tree in my back yard. There is one branch that comes perilously close to my racing rig (within 1") when I park it along my fence.
I've been thinking about using one of my ratcheting racecar straps to start pulling it up and away (towards the center of the tree) over the winter and spring. I'd rather do this than cut it because cutting will make the tree look very unbalanced. Thoughts?

Works on bonsai trees. Course they are a bit smaller.

You can't teach an old tree new tricks...Chop it down and make some furniture.

Post a photo of the whole tree, indicate which branch is the one you want to work on.

You will have to keep tension on it forever . . . Ratchet it where you want it and cable it.

So it won't essentially grow to where I ratchet it over time? It's growing out of the main trunk at about a 50 degree angle to the ground..
I was hoping to persuade it to grow more upwards...

Good information, thanks. I think I will talk to a tree guy around here.
