Another thing I find odd is that if a woman wants the baby, some dood punches her in the gut early on and the fetus dies, the guy could be charged with murder. However, the lady could have decided to dispose of the pregnancy the day before an it would have been no big deal.

What a whacked society we live in....

Exactly, this is a great legal inconsistency. I think the first time they charged someone with double murder; they should have made abortion illegal. There is no logical way around that.

What I find profoundly disgusting is that there seems to be little to no effort placed in preventing 'unwanted' pregnancies, or no penalty on those who create them, oftentimes over and over again. Perhaps if there were serious repurcussions after the first or second 'accident', this would no longer be such a dominant and controversial issue in our society after a few years to reach an equilibrium point of personal responsibility and accountability.

There's a solution to this but not the will to carry it out. The government shouldn't be in the business of subsidizing child birth under any circumstances. Tens of thousands of children are born to medicaid and military each year and taxpayers are shouldering the costs which is wrong.

Ladies and gentlemen,
My wife and I "murdered" our first daughter. Her name was Lucy. First ultrasound, fine. Second ultrasound, something wrong. Special appointment at Children's Memorial Hospital in Chicago. Ultrasound tech says she'll be right back...15 minutes later, ultrasound tech and two cardiologists tell us that our unborn baby, Lucy, which we've named her already, has half of a heart, basically. Options? Open heart surgery at THREE DAYS OLD, again at 12 mos., again at 18 mos., and who knows how many beyond that...or abort. By Illinois law we had 3 days to decide, otherwise we would have to go full term. We chose the latter.
Do we live with regret? No. Until you've dealt with it directly, I'd keep your mouth shut.
Christian.

ok..so i'm new here and just ran into this post. it isn't that hard to prevent pregnancy with the birth control options now-a-days. what's REALLY sad is how some people (both men and women) use abortion as a form of birth control.

i made it out of my teens without having a child, something my siblings couldn't do. i chalk it up to 98% responsibility, 2% luck...

either way, i think it isn't a "woman's right" as much as it is the "couple's right" to choose. (obviously not in all cases is there a couple but i'm trying to keep things simple)

like someone else said, if roe vs wade is overturned, you're going to see alot more babies turning up in trash cans and young girls dying from botched illegal abortions...

if it REALLY is an objective to make abortions illegal, start by educating the minors we're "trying" to protect (so i've heard the argument go). these kids hardly follow politics. the word "abortion" may cause a stir among adults and those with children 'about that age', but it hardly raises an eyebrow among the young. they won't change their sexual habbits because they heard from a friend of a friend of a cousin of janie that abortions are illegal.
