Cool Chick + Big Mouth = Another Fine Mess

Let me get this right yur Co hired a couple of people who weren't qualified and you stepped up and said well maybe they're IT qualifications should have been evaluated.. so in effect someone failed at hiring the "right" people...tsk tsk tsk ......

And now yur asking the Retarss... ahhhhhh.....Board what kind of qwestions you should be asking the prospective fish.....ROFLMFAO...

This question you should be asking is...

1. If you are going to be the sole interviewer..and decision maker as to who gets hired....if you fail in getting that magic person.. you should be asking who can I send my resume out to...

2. If I am part of a commitee of interviewers and am the primary decision maker...and you fail to get the magic person..is my head going to be on a pole at the next staff meeting

3. If you are part of a commitee with only one vote as to who gets hired...then who is it that wants to teach me a lesson..on how to keep my mouth shut...

Maybe thats a good hypethetical to ask your prospective fish when trying to determine who to hire....

My advice is to PASS THE BUCK....and make it a committee decision. someone wants to make you responsible for the next fish....I mean hiree.....

To test for analytic ability...you want to ask questions where a logical conclusion can be drawn....

A + B = C

For example..

If you have a gasoline fire do you use the foam filled extinguisher or water filled extinguisher...since gasoline is lighter than water, gas will float on water...thus a foam extinguisher is used because it smothers the fire...

Cool, if you're actually reading this, as abrasive a person as Tabs is, I think he may be on the mark here.

You do need to be exceedingly careful here, you might be in a setup for a fall. Friends are Friends, Business is Business, but Politics are nasty!

LOL Tabs

No, I have no worries like that. My sole purpose is to figure out if they're technologically challenged or not.

One of these undesirable hires, I saw their resume and this person had so much crap that even I wouldn't put on, this is when I started questioning what they were asking in the interviews. This woman outright lied.

Even our new helpdesk supervisor (who was supposed to be a "working supervisor") has poor technical skills. Three in a row. Was nuts.

Anyway, no worries tabs, I'm just doing my job. I have every right to question why this has been happening.

And no, I'm not the "sole" determiner....I will offer my opinion and if they choose to hire anyway, so be it. They (supervisor and manager) ultimately will have to pay the price if their choice is poor.

Just hire the hottest chick that applies. If nothing else, she'll boost the male moral.

My advice is to eat something and get a good night's sleep after a drunk, before finalizing a decision to start a new thread.

I'm now finally, mercifully, mature enough that I can see how stuff happens, and what to do. I ask a lot more questions than I used to, and I don't talk quite as much. And there are some very very common tactics. Cool knows this, I think. When someone comes up to me and whines about part of our system, and especially if they think they can see why it isn't working well.....that person gets to spearhead an effort toward improvement. Just as in martial arts, often the effective tactic is to deflect. To redirect somebody's energy.

The scenerio I envision is that you interview someone, you give your critique of their strenghths and weaknesses from yur point of view and the final decision is made either by the commitee or manager...

Your basically clean because you have given your professional critique, pluses and minuses... you have been included in the process hopefully for the benfit of the corp, and you will share some of the responsibility for the decision made. That was the point of including you..

CC - no good can come from this. Shut down as soon as you can, take a vacation and warm up the resume. That ship sinking. A top legal firm that has data issues is gonna find itself in a world of hurt. IT controls data, lawyers need data to win. The data is badm the lawyers don't win guess whose head is good for the crack'n?

Sure. But we are pretty collaborative here. The director promotes collaborative behavior. This is really a great place to work.

If my input demonstrates to be inaccurate, my boss and I will

1. discuss what went wrong
2. discuss ways to improve
3. if that bad, I'll be pulled out of it.

However, I seriously doubt I'll fail. I think I have pretty good intuition.

My boss doesn't want me to fail, we work wonderfully together. Also, this has to be one of the least "politics" department I've ever worked in.

Not to mention, I cannot choose any worse than what they were doing...I'm telling you....OMG.

It's a valid point, but I'm not really concerned about it. I'm not afraid of taking responsiblity for my actions, nor not assuming responsibility because of fear of repercussions.

I'll be fine.

Nah. I have years of experience in my field. I don't need decision-making advice with regard to my position.

But, in areas I'm not familiar with (as with this particular topic), sure. Apparently she's not that familiar with this aspect of interviewing either since these three got through..... We'll work it out though....

I suppose, if "teachers" pet means working well together. But then, her supervisors are "teachers" pets as well since they also work well with her and I work well with them. We have a common goal here we strive for.

Why is it so hard to understand some people/companies can be functional?
