Anybody into Astrology ?

As a doctor and generally science / hard data oriented person, I have always laughed at the proposition that born at a certain time of the year would have a great impact on your personality traits.

Lately, however, I have had reason to moderate my biased opinion.

Me and my spouse come from two previous marriages. She had two children and I three. We have now completed the "family" with a 7 months old baby girl.

We have been together for five years and have always had a lot of fights. I tend to think we are very different as persons, regarding goals in life, motivation etc. On the other hand we share several traits, like humor and social patterns.

By chance I came to read what the signs of Astrology have to say about different birth dates.

And what a revelation ! She fit (as I did) the description to every detail and letter ! Ghostlike and creepy how exact the similarities matched my woman.

I am starting to turn a believer. And believe me, I am well trained and educated in taking apart studies and tests that report certain statistical outcome. But this was just to much - I am chocked out of my scientific pants !

Did you write out a description of your wife first, and then compare that to the astrological description? Or did you just read the horoscope and say "that's just like my baby!" Man is a rationalizing animal - we like to make things fit and see patterns even where there is no pattern.

I have always had the same position as you on this issue - nonsense with capital N.

However, in this case the exact overlap is just uncanny. Both good and not good personality traits - they all match perfectly.

I am not saying I buy it just yet - but still... who knows I might even start believe in God one of this days.

livi - I think more credence rests with the way in which someone was born or how they were in the womb than the month of their birth.

I bet if you were to find out her fav color and number and have her roll the dice 7 times under a full moon during the second semester of your sons Freshman year it would give you a vague indication weather or not you were gonna get laid in the next six months - provided that you had plenty of bran the proceeding month and she hadn't a chance to talk to her sister during the times between 1 and 4:15PM on any given Holiday in the past 17 days. Oh ya, make sure you floss each tooth 5 times and when you walk through a doorway, touch the doorjam with your left foot and whistle through your teeth.

The Japanese (not all of them, I'm sure) believe your blood type determines your personality... The planets, blood type, birth order, the decade you were born in, etc... are all useless in determining (IMHO)... your personality.

ok, I'll be the naysayer (or is it yeahsayer) and admit that I think that there is some relevance to astrology/numerology/i ching/etc. Not necessarily in their direct application, but in helping you see yourself from a different light. I don't let any of these things govern my life or influence my choices, but if you open your mind and spend a little time reading, you can think about yourself and your situation in a different light and perhaps get some insight you wouldn't otherwise find. For instance, Dan Millman's book "The Life you were Born to Live" has quite a bit of nonsense in it, but it also points out some aspects that might be in your personality that you otherwise might not have connected, and allows you see how that influences your decision making process.

Then again, I've read the Tao Te Ching many, many times, meditate at a Tibetan Buddhism center, find philosophical applications of quantum mechanics interesting, and am generally whack. But as Shakespeare said:
