Not a huge recovery. Did he say if he was going to do a GoreTex mesh repair or a traditional repair. Quicker recovery and equally good results with the traditional repair. Sometimes if the defect is too large, we need to use a Goretex fabric reinforcement.

I say use carbon fiber and an autoclave.

They could mold in six pack abs too:)

Moses, I really don't know what method they will use. My doc just poked around it , said "hernia, now lets talk business and politics" After 45 minutes of that he said "I 'll set you up with Dr. Goodbar at xyz Hospitol, he'll take good care of you". Then I got a call this morning that told me I was scheduled for surgury at an outpatient clinic a week from today.

You tell me:)

If it's as small as a little finger, you'll probably get a traditional repair. You'll do great.

One time in the OR this patient took a Sharpie and wrote over his hernia; "Stand back! I don't know how big this thing gets." It cracked everybody up. :D

Moses,
Don't tell him he will do great! Then the next thing you know ol lendaddy is being a wussypuss and moaning and groaning about how uncomfortable it is to fart. He comes back at you and starts in.

You have to tell him it will hurt like hell, he will be bed rid'n for at least a week maybe two. He will have to take laxitives because pinch'n a pressure loaf could burst a stitch. God forbid trying to tie a shoe lace!

After the procedure and for the next week while he is "recoup'n", it will be a breeze and he will think that he is still a strong young buck and go buy another Porsche just because he feels so good about himself.

It helps the Porsche economy! Jeez, didn't they teach you anything in med school?

Hey, I win!! Sweet! Kinda cheated though since I am a doc...

FWIW, the wife just called and there was some confusion. I go in a week from today for a consulatation not surgury. Here's hoping I don't have a tumor the size of a Christmas ham creating all the pressure in my abdomin. :(

Nah. Ham-sized tumors don't cause hernias. (But aliens do!) ;)
