Project Evil e30: Its Alive!!!!

Finally got her running last night. Idles great. Need to bleed the brakes so I couldnt take it out.

Only problem was taht oil was spewing out of the turbo. Realized I still had the valve cover breather hooked up to the intake mani. Retarded. So it will get rerouted tonight.

Is it a custom setup, or a kit? What are you doing for exhaust?

I love the sound of a turbo. My Jetta's turbo is on the way out; it's been getting louder and slower to spool up. I'm going to throw in a larger kkk24 and run a straightpipe when it finally goes... it's amazing how much the turbo muffles the exhaust noise.

I really want to try my hand at rebuilding an n/a M10. I've got a friend with an e21 (320i) that we could drop it in. I think it would make a super-fun autox toy and GRM $2006 entrant.

Yup, the turbo will give you a deeper throaty sound. When you drive it and gear the turbo spool it is quite a sound. The surging sound is neat.

How much boost are you running again? What else have you done to prepare the engine for this change. I would imagine bigger injectors, colder plugs and come sort of fuel management maybe a AVC-R?

What are you doing to adjust the timing? Did you just retard it a little?

Very cool! That car will be a cool sleeper until you step on it.

24lb injectors, walbro 255 pump, and a vortech 12:1 FMU. Running 8psi right now but going for 10psi. Anything after that will need MegaSquirt (which Im plotting).

This thing would get smoked in the Grassroots Challenge. 190hp wont cut it. Although it would do well in the Auto X (bilstiens, stage 3 springs, and huge sways)

Setup is all one off. Not kits for these things. Learned everything over at e30tech.com. Very knowledgable swedes over there.

Thanks for the compliments guys.

How much does megasquirt cost?

Is your intention to run this in the 2006 challenge? I have always maintained that the winner should have to sell his car to them for the challenge price. i.e. $2006 then the car becomes the prize for the next years winner. This would eliminate all the cheating that goes on in there. I know for a fact a MR2 that runs has way more than $2000 in it. You would think twice about competing if you had to give up the car. The initial objective was to take a junker and get it set up enough to run. Some of these cars are running 11 second 1/4 miles and tearing up the Autocross like a top dollar car.

My thoughts exactly. The winner last year was a V8 RX-7. They came up with the $2000 after selling motor for $1500. On what planet is a non-turbo RX-7 motor that much? Maybe $500.

It would be fun to just try it but no chance of my car finishing in the top 10.

The most you can recoup from a budget is half - so selling a $1500 motor would only net you $1002.50 back to your budget in 2005. I'm relatively sure there's creative accounting going on, but I think just going and competing with a cheap car would be fun.
