I grew up without a TV from about ages 7 to 13. I was culturally deprived but I read a lot of books instead.

No, my parents remodeled their home and did not have a TV for a few months while waiting to get the plasma set. Mom was sort of pissed they had already paid for it, because she did not want to get another one. You are not missing much without a TV

I have a TV and people think I'm crazy, therefore, there must be some other reason they think you're crazy. I only watch once a week - Simpsons and Family Guy - and only if they're new episodes.

No TV here.
We do have an old TV with rabbit ears, but I never turn it on. We do occasionally watch movies on DVDs, though. |

Does your computer have a TV card? Now, if you had to live without a computer, that would be just be weird.

We got a 50" DLP and digital cable about a year ago.
I'm starting to think it may be the worst thing I've ever done. It's not just the kids, though that is a problem. It's me, it's everyone. The thing is like herion or something. It's evil. And I love it.

Course I have a thing with the History Channel, CSI and a few others, along with 60 minutes, the CBS propaganda channel. Now its gotten even worse. I Tivo the programs I like, then WiFi them to my laptop and watch them on the road where there is nothing to watch or do at night. Sorry guys but I cannot live without television anymore than I could do it without a computer or my 911. Still read a lot of books and magazines but my TV is going to stay. I do share your concern about people who do nothing but watch it all day, especially kids, but this is a "parent" problem that needs to be addressed elsewhere. JoeA

I have a 65" HDTV and it is used maybe an hour a week for television, and two hours a week for a DVD movie.
Television isn't too interesting to me. E |

People often try to tell me about a great advertisement they saw the other day, or allude to some line from a sitcom. I stare at them blankly for a moment, then explain that I don't own a TV. They stare at me blankly, and we both feel a little awkward, as if at least one of us has three heads. I end up reading more, and spending more time in PPOT, so it could be worse.

Same here- NO TV,
I have not had a TV since the whole OJ Simpson thing went down (10 yrs) My house mate and I got so fed up with all twelve channels (no cable) showing nothing but the white Bronco driving down the freeway followed by a flock of police cars. Accompanied by scenes of the cops standing on the street in front of the house where he killed Nicole and Ron. We unplugged the TV and put it on the street. Hey it's Socal and the obsession that the news media has with famous people and especially ones that kill is unparalleled. Needless to say between surfing and finishing college I didn't have time to miss TV or even care. I do see it once in a while when I stop by a friends house where it is on 24-7 and its astonishing what a bunch of unbelievable crap it is. Fact of the matter is I just don't have time for it- IMO- your better off without it, one is just much more productive. |

just a month ago I was a serious news junky + comedy central + teen titans.
Girlfriend, a few car projects and G9Girl later and I'm putting in 4 hours of TV time a week max. Love it! but also feel disconnected iwth current news, I'm sure that will go away over time, and a Cask & Cream and pleasant conversation/debate/stuff with the GF always works too. ![]() TVs are evil. Sell it, go out iwth the wife and kids more.

We have one - mostly to watch occasional sports programming and stuff but honestly I only watch about 3-4 hours total a week. Gotta' love Tivo!
I refuse to buy into the propagandist thinking here in Southern California that the world would shrivel up and die tomorrow but for the actions of the self-important Hollywood types that strut around here in delusional pompousity. Most programming sucks. Radio, TV, movies, etc. Most of it completely sucks. Also, it's ENTERTAINMENT people. Not reality. Not important. It's the modern equivalent of court jesters or gypsies. People that make their livelihood off of providing momentary amusement or titliation to those of us that actually work and do things worthwhile in our society. So in short, yes I have a TV. I hardly use it and find less and less use for it as time goes on. Perhaps in the near future I'll unplug it for good and toss it, but not quite yet.

I hardly ever watch TV... only because I don't have time. Sometimes it is on while I am on the PC or working out - usually Comedy Central, [adult swim], or CNN.
The last show I followed was the first season of 24 (four years ago?). I used to be a TV junkie back in the day, but it all just seems like crap to me now... sitcoms used to be funny (Cheers, Seinfeld, NewsRadio, even early Friends), but they all seem the same to me now: fat guy blue-collar lives with way-too-attractive-for-him wife, and has a wacky neighbor (often a family member).
