![]() ![]() R&T: "(Steering)........ is uncomfortable though, with sharp bumps in mid-turn, resulting in steering kickback and a little sideways bobble that saps confidence and throws your rhythm. THe same wouldn't happen in a Ferrari F430 or Ford GT, two lofty targets to which the Z06 aspires" C&D: "As benign as the Corvette handles, the chassis still moves around and takes some getting used to. Some cars, like the Porsche 911, provide an instant confident feeling that the Z06 does not impart" After reading both articles, one gets the impression that they are less impressed than they thought they would have been -- Still, I'd take this "Blue Collar Supercar" if someone offered it...

All that style and pushrods...l saw this car at Mid-Ohio and couldn't get any information on the standard features or modifications from last year. I seemed to know more than the sales people.

Words are words. Time is another thing and being that it has the 2nd fastest time behind the Carrera GT at Nurburing means plenty more to me then opinions.

Yet the impressions and senses which make a car fun to drive while objectively "getting the job done" while behind the wheel makes for a better, more rewarding, experience.

The Z06 looks like an extremely well engineered, tightly packaged sports car, chock-full of cool technology. Second only to the Carrera GT around the Nurburgring?
At $68K, it's the performance bargain of the century! I'd buy one in a heartbeat. Heck, I'd even have one over the yet-to-be-released 997 GT3. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

I should take the time to research this, but I thought the Carrera GT's "fastest production car time" at the Ring was eclipsed by a Lotus 7 clone with a Honda S2000 motor. The Lotus 7 clone somehow fits into the "production car" catagory.
Anayway that would make the Porsche #2 and the Vette #3... Mike |

So it surely must be true. That being said, the C6 Z06 is the first Corvette built since 1967 that I've ever been remotely interested in. Bonehead Cobalt dealers will suck the holy life out of this thing with markups, though, and without a real world market price advantage, its a far less attractive proposition... Tim |

I don't think gas mileage would be something I would want to compare. My Lt has a 91 vette with some performance mods and a very heavy foot and he gets around 30mpg. I drove a retired troopers 05 vette and he said he gets 32 mpg. Not bad for all that hp.

The ZO6 LT7 engine is the first 500+ hp engine to not be classed a taxable gas guzzler, with a combined mileage of something like 20.6 mpg. Granted, we got 16 mpg (two car writers) over the course of burning two tankfuls last week at the intro in Virginia, but that was with reasonably spirited driving. Not saying we were a pair of Johnny O'Connells, but certainly we weren't lumping around in sixth all day.
Oh, and as for my having said GM is making world-class products, I believe what I said was that the ZO6 is a world-class product, which is quite a different thing. And yes, the ZO6 "second fastest" Nordschleife time is for production cars. I assume that the quasi-Lotus kit car with the Honda engine, which indeed did beat the CGT time, is not considered to be a true production car. Stephan Stephan
