Dimeadozen is great, but you can't get in at the moment, as its user full. Try bt.etree.org, Live Music Archive, and the various artist specific Bit Torrent sites (ie. bt.dylantree.com, jungleland.dnsalias.com etc)

Okay, I just downloaded Limewire and was able to download some music!!:D

Shareaza works on the Gnutella, Gnutella2 and eDonkey2000 networks.

The original version of Kazaa Lite (pre 12/03) is good if you can find it. No spyware / adware, and on a very good p2p network. I do not have any info about the currently available "K-lite Pro" version.

I've also used Bearshare, but as mentioned, the free version is loaded down with unwanted junk.

Used to use WinMX, and liked it.

shareaza has no extra spam/spy crap.

get the ABC bittorrent client
then log on to thepiratebay.org or torrentbox.com
or any other bittorrent website, google lists loads , some are riddled with popups though, the above 2 are clean and host loads of files

well seems I am the only one that uses ARES, no idea if it is good/bad for the comp or anything on spyware. Have been using it for close to 2 years now though without a hitch. Guess it is a keeper.

Reviving an old thread. Anyone have any new suggestions on ways to download things?

I have used the pay version of Bearshare for several years now but lately the search results for things like CSI, Prison Break and so on have gone to nothing. Am overseas and in a country where its legal so not worried about that and just trying to find some programs to watch or music to listen to while away from home.

limewire, emule

Mule 08-11-2007 06:01 AM

emule seems to have anything from plans to the space shuttle to women doing things that dont seem possible.

masraum 08-11-2007 07:21 AM

Again, shareaza seems to still work pretty well. It works on 3-4 different sharing networks.

I'm sold!! Downloading emule!!

By the way... mp3fiesta.com has individual tracks for 10 cent, and entire albums as low as 99 cent.

Tried to install Emule and it went fine but when I started to configure it things went downhill. Cannot get it to configure the ports correctly (using XP, both with and without the firewall on) and still no joy.

Suggestions?

Mule 08-11-2007 11:10 AM

do you have dsl or cable?

Sonic dB 08-11-2007 12:35 PM

To the original poster.... just curious if you expect musical artists
to create their work for free so that you can download it and get it for
free?

What do you give up in return for the artists hard work and committment?

That is where this is heading.

Yo Ho Yo Ho a Pirates life to be...
a pretty Fukkin arrogant attitude there...
would you feel the same if people stole merchandise or services that you
created?

(Go ahead flame back with your rationalizations...you will only cheapen
yourself worse. So lets hear it)

Moral issues aside.... do you realize that by expecting your music for free, you
contribute to the worsening of music as a whole? How do you expect artists to
do their best work when they can not be compensated for it?
This is an ongoing process, but the continued slide of music is not a good thing...

I suppose you could just download old classics for "free" from pirated websites
and live with that...

or you could steal crappy music from current artists because you have lowered your
standards....

either way, it is not much fun, fresh and exciting... so support the artists please.

I think it's "Yo Ho Ho it's a Pirate's life for me....."

He isn't kidding, being in the business and having to deal with the nazis who patrol clubs to make sure they have paid for the license for bands & juke boxes to play cover songs, and him being in a band, what it cost him for tracks is much more than the average joe since the tracks he buys include the rights to use the music.
