Audi TT Quattro... any good??

My wife and I have been thinking about an Audi TT quattro, 1.8l 225hp AWD. Has anybody here had any first-hand experience with them?

She'll be using it for a daily driver. I'll steal it occasionally for autocross cone-killing.

My wife drives a 98 A4 2.8 quattro avant and she loves the car. Had it since new and for the most part been reasonable in maintainance, the 2.8 motor is smooth as silk, imho.

I drive a 00 A4 1.8T quattro, its my everyday driver, its spunky and reasonable to drive but its not my porsche, a porsche is a porsche and nothing will compare.

I have never driven a TT but I would expect way better horses per weight ratio.

The issue with audis has always been realiability and maintainance costs, all I can say is pick them well and do your homework cuz in the end a car is a car. The dealers will rip you off, that's why they are in business, dumb people will pay. Find a good mechanic that has the computer hookups and the cost for maintainance goes way down.

I have driven one of those, liked it very much, but it drives like a front wheel drive car. The back seat is only good for kids, and they are sort of hard to see out of, feels like it is one piece of billet aluminum though

Why not wait a little longer for the Cayman S or perhaps the base model Cayman?

Nothing against the Audi, but the new Porsche promises to be a lot more fun, even in a non-S guise (whenever they release that one). And IMO, looks much better.

Exactly right. Pretty cool looking sheetmetal, but Golf underpinnings -- not that there's anything wrong with that.

The A3 Quattro comes out in 2+ months. I think it shares the platform of the Jetta or Passat. It may not look as slick, but it's more practical and has the advantage of a few more years of CAD/CAM development. I have the FWD version and I'm very happy with it.

As for cost of maintenance, it's 100% free for 4 years.

Is the new Jetta on the same platform as the old one?? Can you still get a maintenance plan on the Audis, they told me that they were phasing that out due to cost.

I've also heard it's going away, but it was kind of a 'deal closer' for me when I got my A3 in May. It's still stated as a 'feature' on the Audi site today.

Really? Don't tell the Evo crowd, or the WRX drivers. They consistently finish in the top spots in autocrosses around here.
I can't see how AWD would do anything less that HELP when it comes to maneuverability.

Are any of these available with AWD?

Cayman ~$58k

"Is the new Jetta on the same platform as the old one?"

The Jetta & Golf got a new chassis this year, as well as a couple of new engines. Measurements of the new Jetta just about match my '93 Passat. Gone is the old twist beam rear axle which made hard cornering Golfs look like a dog lifting a leg.
Base Jetta motor is a 5 cylinder with about 150 very relaxed hp. Wait for the turbo direct injection 2 liter. The twin clutch DSG is also available.
The Audi A3, while based on the same platform as the Golf is not a replacement. Rather like Lexus & Toyota models sharing underpinnings.

Anyone have a link to a good Audi forum that includes the TT? I can't decide between a TT or a used Range Rover...

We looked hard at the TT when we replaced the wife's car 18 months ago. The twin turbo, 225 HP 1.8 motor was by far the best drive train available at the time for my tastes. Test drove it about 4 times.

We were about to have the dealer start searching the east coast for a color combo we wanted when we drove a S4, mostly on a lark. Bought it 10 minutes later. V8, 6 speed, and Quattro completely changed the way I think about cars.

All in all, the TT is a nice car. You should be very happy with it.
