What is a Liberal?

Liberals are simply people with immature minds. Some things become intuitively obvious when we become older. We know how a 2 year old is likely to react to a specified situation; we also know how 6, 12, and sometimes even 18 year olds will react to specified situations. One thing about a typical 18 year old is that they are very liberal in almost every way. At older ages, say 26, then 35, and 45, and 55 there are almost universal reactions to specified situations. These reactions become much more conservative at age 26 and very conservative by age 55. Why? Because of the wisdom gained throughout life. Intuition is a high form of logic that usually cannot be understood by those who have not matured, consequently, a liberal, with an immature mind, cannot understand the viewpoints presented by those wiser than they are. Just like a 2 year old cannot understand things that an 18 year old can.

How do you explain the relative large number of older liberals? I have thought long and hard about this and have concluded the following:

1. Some people can never fully mature. Just like many mentally undeveloped people, they never go past childhood.
2. Most liberals grow out of it and develop mentally. But this is where it really gets to be interesting.
a. Some are just lazy and never do anything to develop their minds.
b. Some have ulterior motives. Those motives, some well intentioned, some quite dark and subversive.

What about those people with the ulterior motives? I think they know well what they are doing; they are in no way liberal any longer, and do not have anyone’s interest but their own at heart. They are only liberal because of demographics. They know there is a vast reservoir of young 18 year olds, which can now vote. They know that a typical 18 year old has more energy, is capable of being influenced and misled and most revolutions are composed of this demographic. They use the liberal tendencies of the typical 18 year old like a sex offender would use candy to bait a 2 year old. They are worse than any typical criminal in that they have no moral values, no higher belief system, no scruples whatsoever and will do whatever is required to meet their own selfish desires. Take Bill Clinton or Adolf Hitler for examples. A good blow job or ambitions to rule the world, no difference to them.

In summary there are three types of liberals, young people, growing up, lazy no counts, and child molesters.

A conservative would take care of their mother so she wouldn't have to depend on social security, lazy no counts and end up in the streets.

From Merriam Webster-
lib-er-al \li-brel,-berel\ adj [ME, fr.MF,fr. L liberalis suitabable for a freeman, generous, fr. liber free} 1: of, relating to, or based on the liberal arts 2: GENEROUS, BOUNTIFUL 3: not literal 4: not narrow in opinion or judgement : tolerant : also : not orthodox 5 : not conservative

Is he serious? Asserting that Clinton and Hitler are similar! How many conservatives have had affairs? ¡Aye curumba!

And there are three types of conservatives - those that can count and those that can't.

I think that 'liberal' and 'conservative' are too general nowadays...

I think as far as liberal goes... you could have some wide eyed bleeding heart idealist that believes people are all good, and if you just don't offend anyone, everyone will just get along and be shiny happy people.

Then there are those that believe people can't take care of themselves, so we need vast social support programs, which leads to beaurocracy. These people also tend to believe that people who make a lot more money than they do, simply don't need the money, and they should be taxed at a much higher rate than the average joe.

Then there are extreme leftists which believe in social/communist utopia... kinda a combination of all of the above.

For conservative...

We have the religious right. Everything is weighed by their own brand of interpretation of the bible. "what would Jesus do" is the mantra of everything they try to do.

Then we have pretty average people that work for their money, and think they should keep it. They detest social welfare, as it breeds dependancy, and perpetuates the cycle. They resist change. Dislike illegal immigration.

Myself, I lean toward conservative, but consider myself more 'realistically moderate'.

I'm a fiscal conservative (I got mine, you get yours)(get out of my wallet , Hah, what a joke now), and a social liberal (out of my body, bedroom and wallet,(whoops, that's a suposedly conservative position).

News Flash:

A 16 year old boy shot by a cop who pointed a toy gun at the cop

Liberal Response: It was a plastic gun

Conservative Response: He pointed a gun at a cop.

If you knew my sisters, you would know why that will NEVER happen!

Gavin... and the third is? Or are you still counting?

Have to say that Fray's viewpoint about the same as mine. Am neither fish nor fowl but if a label is needed would much rather be a conservative than liberal. If you are not realistic then you are not in touch with the world and that aint gonna work either...

As I pointed out on another thread, Jack (Snowman) is either a comedic genius or the biggest idiot this board has ever seen.

He is so damn good that I really can't tell.

Why not use the current definition of the term instead of redefining it to fit a personal world? Shouldn't that work as a common point of reference for most of us? I like Wikipedia to keep up with the latest fashionable perjorative:

Liberal:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_liberalism

Conservative:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Conservative

... and to assist Mul in his repeated suggestions that the far left are indeed Nazis:

I get so tired of these threads. I think by now we all understand that some conservatives don't like the liberal mindset and vice versa. (Although it's unwise to assume that everyone to one side of your political stance all think the same way, or arrived at their opinions by the same mental processes.)

The opening post on this thread is either enormously funny, or sadly misguided. If Jack is a comedian, then great. But if he was serious, he needs to look further. I am a 48 year-old whose political leanings are decidedly liberal (or at least I have made most of you think I am), and there are few people who would suggest I have an intelligence or wisdom problem. I used to be conservative.

Here is a clue Jack, in case you are not a comedian. At first the conservative view, at least the notion that commerce and deregulation solve all ills, seems to have some savvy economics behind it, and beats the heck out of what appears to be an oversimplified liberal view. But upon further review, the conservative theory becomes the oversimplification, and the liberal view becomes the long-range permanent fix. Now if you're not a comedian, you probably are curious about what I just said. Not a good position for arrogance.

I had a civics prof say pretty much the same thing way back when. His put was that the longer you were living an adult life, the greater stake you were building in society, the more you had contibuted and the more you had to lose, the more conservative you would become. All of us young liberals laughed at him. This is, however, pretty much the progression I have followed. I was, believe it or not, once quite liberal in my views. I still maintain some very liberal views, but forced to label myself one way or the other, I would choose conservatism.

Sometimes I wonder if I grew away from liberalism, or if it grew away from me. I still support much of the liberal platform that was accepted as such in my younger days. Some of my commitment to those views has softened, but really has not totally gone away. I do find myself at odds with much of today's liberal platform. There are many elements that just were not there when I was younger. That's where I think I lean more towards liberalism having grown away from me, than me away from it. I have not changed that much, but liberalism sure has.
