Why's Ahhhhnold taking so long to decide?

I'm starting to worry he's going to cave in to "special interests"...

Is it customary to announce you're NOT going to give a stay? I wouldn't think so, but I guess maybe. Seems that would be rubbing it in.

I actually think Tookie should get clemency. I worry that it would set a bad precedent, i.e. that our bookstores would be overrun with children's books by death row inmates, but I try and look at it from a perspective of how he would benefit society best. If you execute him the only benefit is any deterrent for future criminals. If you allow him to live, he might continue his anti-gang and anti-violence work and change the lives of a few inner city kids.

Do I have to give up my right wing nutbag membership card now?

You worry about what you think might "benefit society" best, but I and many other worry about "justice" in the name of the four people who were executed face down on the ground from shotgun blasts in their backs, including three members of the same family, by a scumbag who has never even acknowledged that he committed the crimes, let alone expressed any remorse.

He's not apologized. He's not admitted wrong-doing. He started the stupid gang war.

To at least say, "I was young and stupid. I am sorry for the pain I caused to the people I killed and to their families. Please forgive me and give me a chance to repay my debt to society by living." IMO, That's a reason for clemency.

Yes.

If the death penalty is going to exist, it is going to exist for this type of person; this type of crime.

It's silly to say there's any "deterrent" effect in an execution. There is no such thing for real criminals, who aren't typically big on weighing their actions. This is societal revenge, pure and simple.

Is it a better object lesson for children to see someone murder four people and become a kind of low level "activist" or to see his execution as the result of such actions? I think it's the latter.

On the other hand he might say "I was young and stupid. I am sorry for the pain I caused to the people I killed and to their families. Please forgive me and give me a chance to repay my debt to society by going to the death chamber like a man. I deserve it."

There were only four people on the face of the earth that had the moral authority to "forgive" Williams, and they are now dead...

I realy don't like taking the death penalty verdict away from the jury. Tookie deserves to die. My only problem wth it is it should have happened years ago.

I'm not generally a fan of the death penalty, but Tookie deserves clemency far less that most. He is an unrepentant rascist and killer.

Thank you! He has lived on the public dole for years now, trying to get enough support to skate out of another crime.

Its time for him to accept the juries decision and move to the next stage of his journey.

I need some help here. I have never, ever, heard a stat in the mainstream media on how many books Tookie has actually sold. Does anybody here have credible info on this? It seems highly relevant.

I did here from a talk show host that all his books have sold a combined total of 302 copies. But I don't know that he had credible data.

I long for the old days when Sparky would remove the felon from further burden to the society the felon felt free to steal/kill/rape/(fill in the blank) from.

He deserves to die for his crime. No amount of 'reform' mitigates the deaths of FOUR people. The jury that decided his fate deserves to see his sentance carried out. His victims' families deserve their justice finally come to fruition. Every level of appelate court that has re-heard this case needs to have their separate affirmation of the death verdicts carried out.

We, members of the society he wronged, deserve this justice.

I'd bet he won't be cold ever again.

Will this deter anyone stupid enough to commit a capitol offense from going thru with a crime? Gawd, I hope not. We just need to cut down on the time it takes to exhaust the multiple appeals and denial of justice served.

If Arnold has any sense ( which seems to be a fleeting thing lately), he will stay mum until late tomorrow morning. He spent a fair amount of time and energy looking into the appeal.

He needs to let him die.

Actually I'm against the death penalty. Just put him in jail, but our jails need to change. Jail should mean hard labor 6 long days a week, and a day to rest, pray to your god(s), etc. No TV, cigarettes, or any other luxuries of any kind. Any money earned from the work goes first to pay for room and board, and second to pay restitution to victims/society.
