Wurth wheel paint

Anybody used the Wurth wheel paint sold by our wonderful host? How much did you use per wheel? Pretty happy with it? Did you clearcoat after? The chrome wheels on my 540 are too bling, and the finish isn't that great, so I'm wanting to sand and paint them.

Two cans for 4 wheels, three or four coats if I recall correctly and no top coat. I did mine about three years ago and they still look fine on my daily driver.

I roughed up the old finish with scotch brite pads and got the wheels super clean before I masked and painted them. Time consuming but easy.

I was planning on using a random orbit sander to rough up the chrome, then a self etching metal primer. Most surfaces of my wheels can be done with the sander. That should work, right? Will chrome bead blast?

The Wurth is very good, but I always have my wheels powder coated, my (& most others) coater can match the factory finish and it has much longer.

To do it right you should have the chrome chemically stripped.

I'd like to do the same thing, any idea what stripper will take off the chrome? Jasco? Or aircraft quality?

As far as I know nothing will strip chrome but electrolosis. But at our shop we only do industrial chrome plating, and stripping. You can sand chrome, but it's pretty hard to do.

Im6y, how much do you charge to re-chrome a wheel? 3 out of 4 of mine are ok, it's just one that the finish has yellowed on. That's the motivation behind painting them. I know there's better ways to go about painting them, but the wheels aren't worth having them chemically stripped.
