San Fran Police officers spanked about Video

Anyone wondering what is going on with the cops in SFO making this video? Come on, after the way things are going around the internet they had to know that it was going to get out.

The guy who made it is now on GMA telling Hanna Storm that it was made to boost morale. Well, the morale will be boosted after 20 officers are suspended.

I thought it was funny in some places but running down a homeless person (black female at that) had to get lots of people perturbed and anyone viewing this should have had a "come to Jesus" talk with the guys and burned all the copies immediately.

This could be interesting...

I especially liked that part where the cop dressed up in drag. That was hysterical. I didn't know that was an actual preson they run over though. I thought it was a dummy.

Matt,

Do not believe that they actually ran over somone. It was all a put on but these days people ruin their career over things like this.

As well the producer of the film, a cop, got on GMA and said something about the Mayor that I am sure is going to bring him some grief. Something like she was over-reacting. If he is not in a union then he will be looking for a job shortly.

A few yrs ago my bud was assigned to the PD "mounted unit". At the xmas party was a hot female newbie who was impressed with my bud's bs about the greatness of horses. They both proceeded to get loaded.

He takes her to the nearby stables and they both undress. He puts boots on both of them and they mount one horse. He rides into the party ballroom with both of them naked.

The commissioner went nuts and tried to fire him. That didn't happen.

Around here the FD private xmas parties are wild compared to the PD ones. For some reason there is a guy nicknamed "deck-gun", aka "tripod", aka "master-stream"..

These parties are a once a year reason to party hearty with no holds barred.

go figure

Ron,

Believe that blowing off steam like this is fine. Then some idiot will take photos and put them on a website somewhere and a library teacher or preacher will see them and have a heart attack and its all over.

Most all of us did this years ago somewhere and it was not a problem. Now the frigging ACLU or such gets involved and its a big deal.

I could show you photos of get togethers we have had in the past around the hangar, or in the airplanes (for some reason the ladies like the cockpit, never figured out why) and it can get wild from time to time. We keep it among ourselves and that way its allowed to continue if and when someone needs to blow off some steam.

"The image of greatest concern to authorities is a still photo on the DVD of an African American officer, whose nickname, Cohen said, is "Dog." The photo shows the officer in a dog collar, eating out of a bowl of dog food, said Cohen and others who have viewed the image..........Cohen, 39, who has been on the force 10 years, said none of the material, released or unreleased, was inflammatory.

"There's no slander here, no racism, no nothing,'' he said. "I don't have a racist, prejudiced bone in my body.''

He said the dog image was a private joke among officers at the station and was not intended to offend anyone. He said the officer he photographed had earned the nickname "Dog" after he complained that he was being treated like one by a station sergeant.

The officer knew of the photo, Cohen said, which was taken after a lieutenant at the station opened a can of dog food for the officer as a joke. "

Let me ask a few silly questions. I am not real excited about the video but please can you explain to us how this video "violated the public trust?" Details pls.

As well please prove who they did not respect and how. Unless they have been suspended I assume that they are still protecting all of us but if they did this video on off time then are they supposed to be protecting 24 hours a day?

Who are they supposed to respect? All of us, the Mayor, or just who?

You are a fairly intelligent individual so I’ll break it down for you, also Joe I can’t and wont "prove” anything.

These are my reasoned opinions and I am sure yours are different..

As sworn officers they are duty bound to protect the weak and innocent. As paid representatives of our community they are obligated to respect individual rights, and have moral and personal integrity. As individuals who are given the benefit of the doubt by the system when their actions are reviewed after say a traffic stop, officer involve shooting or cases of suspected excesses, they have violated the public trust by showing their true behaviors, and causing us the public to doubt their moral charater and thus their ability to protect and defend us, the strong weak and of minority status.

Absent the tape ask anyone of those officers in public if they would participate in that behavior and they would strenuously deny and be offended that their moral character is called in question. You cant put on the blue and then take it off. cops are responsible to the forece and us 24/7. thats why they go armed and respond to off duty emergencies when they witness it. They are paid protectors. Tell me who were these cops in that video protecting ?

I am not a cop hater. I am cop respecter. Immediate blood family in LE: FBI agent, Asst U.S Attny General, Retired Deputy Chief LAPD, Retired FD Chief St.Louis. I personally belong to a shooting club mostly populated by cops. They often forget I am not one and ohy !...the stories. Among these men/women of all races there is a respect for themselves and above all for their profession. Yes they close ranks and are defensive, but each of them family and friends would be very very quick to condemn that behavior as outside the norm, and stupidly career ending.

Gavin Newsom just sunk to a new low for me. I will not be voting for him in the next election.

It's perfectly alright for him to blatantly flout state law and marry gays in SF until Arnold puts the hammer down on him, but this video flips him out and he suspends 20 of our cops.

Yeah right. Whatever's good for political capital I guess, no matter what the law is.

Screw you Gavin,

ianc....It’s clear you are missing the point. A social engineering debate / conflict is one thing but you obviously don’t get the concept of Professional Credibility. Morality aside these guys in the video stand between us and real problems, such as jail time or DEATH for YOU and ME.
I want and need to trust them don’t you?

Take the case of OJ Simpson. Guilty MFO. Why is he free? Because the system lost credibility. Cops tried to frame a guilty man. The result of cops using racial language in the past the result of cops being disciplined in the past for dishonest acts, then clearly moving loosing relocating evidence to prove their case. It was wrong and as a result a guilty man is free.

The video while sophomoric and funny in some places is also controversial because it shows cops spoofing and simulating illegal behavior, including murder.

Sexual harassment of women pulled over for speeding..do you want a cop ogling and making sexually suggesting get out of ticket comments to your wife / sister/ mother ?

Murder. Running over homeless person. Pretend or not THAT’S MURDER.

Dereliction of duty: playing games and ignoring emergency calls 60 cops just fired in NO.

Racial profiling: Blacks, Asians, Women. And a fuc..king dog chain ? Do I want that guy pulling over my 19yr old honor student college son coming back from his night shift at Pizza hut ? HELL NO.

Dude, you want me to go on?

They because of the power they have MUST have credibility.

I could not trust any of those guys who made/participated in the film to speak the truth when it matters. Period.

One thing that you need to realize is that you are looking at this from a different viewpoint than many of the rest of us. We may not agree with your viewpoint so before you try to explain it in various ways, how about just accepting it?

As I said above, I do not really agree with the video but as well do not agree with many of the ideas presented in your points either. Its called our opinion and we all have one. You say right out that your family is in LE and that alone might give you a different outlook in this area. I agree that these people need to be trustful but givin the limits you put on them many would not survive.

What do you think idiotic videos like this do for police-citizen relations in, say, the black community? How about the stupid explanations that the black cop wearing a dog collar and eating dog food wasn't being demeaned, it was just a friendly joke? These cops have done a lot to hurt their department's effectiveness, and certainly deserve to be suspended and perhaps worse.

Joe, I don't know if you fly cargo, VIPs, or what, but let's suppose it is people. Suppose you and the company's other pilots got together and made a video showing your clients being thrown out of airplanes, eating dog food, acting like imbeciles, being sexually harassed, etc. The video gets out and your clients are not amused. Would you be surprised at being suspended? I don't think so.

Never mind. One or two cops made the video, so lets hang every one of them because they all must be alike? Correct?

Do not have time for endless discussions like this... They are YOUR cops after all, not mine, so enjoy life with them.

Seeeu911,

I see your point, but I don't think I agree with it completely. I agree there must be credibility, but what you are talking about is just lip service to the word.

People are people and nothing more, they're not machines programmed to act in a certain way 24 hours a day. No matter how professional a cop is, he still gets angry, has certain thoughts, prejudices, etc. just like anybody else. You can't eliminate that. Look at Bill Clinton. I had no problem with him getting a little hanky panky, but if he lied about it, that's something else again.

The making of this video and behaving professionally on the job are not mutually exclusive. I just don't get the linkage there.

The linkage is that making this video has damaged the relationship between the SFPD and the citizens that it serves and polices, and thus has hurt the ability of the SFPD's officers to do their job. Is that not pretty obvious?

Read my post to Joe about the hypothetical pilot's video. Can't you see why making blatantly derogatory statements about your company's customers is a job-related problem?

One of my company's biggest customers is, well, let's call them the XYZ Corporation. If I get caught at a company party showing a video in which the President of XYZ wears a dog collar and eats from a dog dish, the "linkage" to my subsequent unemployment is going to be pretty direct.

Who's hanging "all" of them? 20 were suspended.
