I'm going under the blade this Saturday - Both eyes and it ain't lasik...

Getting a procedure done this weekend to correct for double vision I have had for about 12 years. The problem is I have something called Strabismus which is a condition where one of the four muscles that control the eye is pulling to hard or not hard enough and it throws off your steriovision. In severe cases it is the "cross-eyed" or the "eye drift" effect. My eyes don't drift or cross but I do tilt my head so I don't see double but over the past several years I see double all the time and it is starting to piss me off.

So the Doctor (who has been doing these operations on kids and adults for 35+ years) is going to put me under, cut the the muscle off of my eye and re-attach it so it doesn't pull it in the wrong direction. he uses micro sutures the width of a human hair. He has to do this with both eyes.

This should be tons of fun! Can't wait to get my eyes cut! This should feel great! They say your eyes will be so badley blood shot all the white will be blood red for a week!

I'll take some pics.

Mike,

Good luck with the procedure. I hope it turns out well.

Ummm, I will pass on the pics though after watching a vid of my grandfathers cataract surgery, I have seen enough scalpel/eyeball contact to last a lifetime.

Jim 'Wash Out' Pfaffenbach: I just got kicked out of the unit. My flight status has been withdrawn. I'm through, Dead Meat!
Pete 'Dead Meat' Thompson: What happened?
Jim 'Wash Out' Pfaffenbach: It's my eyes. I've got walleye-vision.
Pete 'Dead Meat' Thompson: Isn't there something that can be done?
Jim 'Wash Out' Pfaffenbach: Well, there's a delicate corneal inversion procedure... a multi-opti-pupil-optomy. But, in order to keep from damaging the eye sockets, they've got to go in through the rectum. Ain't no man going to take that route with me!

Good luck and speedy recoveries!

Wow, good luck, get a white cane or a seeing eye dog or at least a handicapped parking sticker. "I need the handicapped sticker
doc, cause after I drive to the store, I can't see where I'm going when I get out to walk". Seriously, good luck.

This will decrease my visual pleasure by 50%, but also my visual misery! Becomes a wash.

Now I have to come up with a reason why my golf game, jump shot and pool game is weak. Before I had a plausable excess, now the only excuse I have is cuz I suck!

My youngest son had this procedure (or a similar one) performed on him when he was around 4 or 5 years old. He had to wear prescription lenses afterward and ended up needing a second surgery as well. He then underwent eye therapy, which was basically a progressive series of exercises, for another 2 or 3 years. I am sure his situation was much different than yours, him being a developing child and all. In the end it all turned out well for him. You probably don't want to hear this but, depending on how far you want to take it, it may be a long haul for you.

I did research it out. Some cases are more severe than others. Not knowing how bad your son's eye's were is tough to say. If he had the real bad cross-eye thing or the eye that drifts way out, then it does take a few procedures and exercises. Mine is only noticable when I shift my eyes to the very far left. The right eye shoots up. Otherwise they look the same straight on.

Ya, it's gonna suck and chances are I'm gonna b!tch about it and have complications. The Bhudda said life is suffering and I tend to experience life when ever I get a chance! (Then again, arn't you supposed to kill the Bhudda if you met him on the road?)

Mike,

Good luck with the eye surgery. All my best. However, back to the post of having just one woman, that means you will only have one Porsche again. Time to go Christmas shopping to restock the garage.

Good luck, Mike. Get some audio books for the first few days so so can rest your eyes without being bored to death.

Well, looks like life has thrown another interesting pitch...

Just got 2 Cowboy tickets from work, 35yd line and a platnium parking pass for Sundays game. I won't be able to go with my wife so she will have to find another "date" while I stay home with the kids and bleed from my eyesockets!

Lol, here I sit in the recliner with an ice pack on my hernia surgery wound. Just had the surgery this morning and what is the first call I got when I got home?

"Hey man were doing a road trip to the Packers gamenand we've got an extra ticket. We're taking the RV and partying the whole way , get over here!"
