CHiP's, the Movie

Are you ready for a big-screen version of the TV show "CHiPs"? Well, it doesn't look like you have a choice. Variety reports that Warner Bros. has signed Wilmer Valderrama (who?), best known for his roles on "That '70s Show" (again, who?) and as an ex-boyfriend of Lindsay Lohan (oh, right), to play the role of Ponch that was originally immortalized by Erik Estrada. The role of Ponch's partner, Jon Baker, hasn't been cast yet, but let's hope it's someone who can open a movie. Not that the original "CHiPs" was believable as a drama, but Warner Bros. plans on making the feature version an action-comedy like "Starsky & Hutch" (because it was such a laugh-fest). Look forward to the moans and groans when the movie's trailer hits your local theater.

Not a movie I'd pay for but the 70's show guy is pretty funny.

I'd like to see him in something else. I've only seen him do that one thing. I wonder if he has real talent (he is very funny on 'That 70s Show').

I loved CHiPs when I was little, in fact I'd say it was my favorite show before Knight Rider was on. I loved the car chases (cheesily done, I know), wide open California freeways, hot Cali chicks (hmm...maybe that's why I was inspired to move to LA), and I wanted to be a highway patrol when I grew up. After all, they can go as fast as they want and not get a ticket!

I will see the movie. Come on, admit it, you watched it back in the day too.

I used to watch CHiPs as a kid as well - it was one of my favorite shows.

They did have a CHiPs made-for-TV movie a couple of years ago, with the lovable, original Ponch and Baker reprising their roles...

I will see the movie version, just like I saw the movie version of the Dukes of Hazzard. Not for the blonde chick - strickly for the car stunts!

I will probably see the movie too just because I loved the TV show so much. Z-man, I saw the CHIPS Reunion TV movie a few years back. I have it on a VHS somewhere. Ponch was quite heavy in that role especially on a bike again.

Isn't Ponch in some religion where the members drink chicken blood?

Hey, that show was good for something...

Only once was a gun drawn, and in every episode, Ponch taught young boys how to pick up dumb-assed Marina del Rey blondes.

I loved CHiPs as a kid too. I used to see them filming on the still under construction 118 freeway all the time.

I see them in re-runs occasionally. Very funny in retrospect.

CHP in my experience has always been way cool. One officer even helped me fix a broken fuel pump lead on my 914.

Plus the theme song kicks ass.

That would be sweet. There was some talk about it but replacing George Peppard would be hard. Hannibal was the master from costumes to plans. My brother and I have Seasons 1 & 2 on DVD and can't wait for the rest.
