I too, have tinnitus, had it for as long as I can remember. Like others have said, lying in bed is the worst. I can't fall asleep with a T.V. or radio on, so the really quite nights really bite.

Dave

Ex-wife had it as well, so we slept with the TV on all night. I get it from time to time (being around jets too long) but its only temp at this time. My Father had it as well so it may be in the family...

What's all this "tubes in ears" stuff...? You people belong to some cult?

I don't have the ringing, but I do have some hearing problem. I cannot block out background noise in a crowded room. Like at the recent PCA Christmas party, I could not understand converstations that people were having with me because of all the background chatter. I just learned over the years to smile if they smile, laugh if they laugh... etc.

Doc says it's from turbines and firearms. Stupid army.

On the other hand, it comes in really handy when my wife is going on and on with some inane conversation,

Tubes in the ears were a way to deal with drainage issues that lead to bad ear infections. I instead had my tonsils and adenoids removed, but the tubes were next.

My 5 year old gets ear infections easily two times a year. I will watch him like a hawk now, as I know that hearing loss comes so easily.

Join the club. Darn military service and too much shooting without adequate protection. After 20 years, I learned to ignore it, which is the only really effective "treatment". I go to sleep with the radio playing classical music at low volume. You will find a way to deal with it over time, don't let it eat you up and don't waste money trying to find a cure.

I also still watch my kids' ear infections, as too many invasive procedures by quaks will cause hearing loss and tinnitus. Thankfully, by now they are growing out of this phase.

i have dealt with quite a bit of this. protect your ears!!!

some use drugs to get to sleep, usually addictive ones.

some use "white noise machines" waves, ocean, humm, whistles, etc in an effort to dissuade the mind.

some use a machine on a contrary frequency to "cancel" the sound of the tinitus, whether it be a squeal, whistle, humm, roar, etc. (comes in many varieties.

theories run the gamut from reverberating circuits (like when you cannot get a song out of your head) to "otoliths, or "small tiny itsy bitsy rocks floating in the semicurcular canals that have jarred loose and keep landing lightly on the cilia.
recently, an MD got it and is leading some new research.

there are support groups online.

have 2 close friends with severe cases, which interfere with employment.

i had it for several months when a frat brother shot off a black powder 50cal hawkins next to my ear at a range.

roger daltry of the "WHO" has it and used to recommend that if you are in the first 10 rows, you must wear earplugs or you will get it.

i think taht these new boom stereos in cars are going to greatly increase the incidnece of this.

hope this adds info for ya all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

hope this helps

Same here, I work in an industrial manufacturing plant and the only time I can hear is when I have ear plugs in!

There is a cure though. My mom had it back in the 60's and her Dr. prescribed Vallium (actually they prescribed Vallium for just about everything back then) and it stopped, but so did cleaning, cooking, and everything else that needed her attention. She ended up hooked on em and had to go through rehab to get off them and guess what .....the ringing was back as well.

Any of you guy's get a fullness feeling in your ears as well?

With me, the full feeling went away when my hearing came back, with the ringing.

At my last visit, they found that the pressure in one ear was way off, (and negative) which caused him some alarm. You should prob. see a ear/nose/throat specialist if you haven't yet.
