Wacky liberal confused on her abortion stance

I don't want to turn this into a debate on abortion itself... but the following was found over at democraticunderground.com (DU(h)).

Dear Auntie Pinko,

I am having a very hard time clarifying my thinking on the abortion issue. Can you help?

Here's my problem: as a woman, of course I am in total favor of the right to safe, legal abortion. I once accompanied a 15-year-old acquaintance when she aborted her brother's child (and helped her get out of the abusive family situation).

However, I am squeamish about abortion on another level. Of my closest and dearest friends, about half are gay. As medical technology advances, I believe we're not far from isolating the "gay gene," or otherwise developing some scientifically valid way of predicting a tendency on the part of a fetus to develop into a gay child. I also believe, based on my three decades living in the Bible belt, that it would take all of fifteen minutes for the fake Christians to find a way to justify aborting all of those fetuses.

I love my gay friends. The world would be a sadder place without them.

Am I being paranoid, Auntie? Or is this a valid concern? Does it necessitate modifying my staunchly pro-choice stand?

So how does one think about that?? This confused liberal chick thinks it's perfectly ok to kill straight babies, but it would be bad to kill gay babies (thus threatening gay people)??

Nothing to say here...the woman apparently thinks that the world would be sadder without the gay child but wouldn't be affected by the loss of a straight one.

Well, this chicks liberal mush headedness is showing, but she has a point.

What happens when parents start aborting fetuses because the kid will have the wrong color eyes, or based on gender? Its a slippery slope, and knowing Americans we will be riding a well greased sled down the hill...

harddrive, that's a great point... what is going to happen when traits (or potential traits) or diseases can be detectable in fetuses? I think more people will choose to abort potentially disabled children.... and I'm sure there will be some that will do just what you're mentioning... abort fetuses because they will have normal traits (hair, eye color, etc) that they don't like....

SoCal, sounds like a slogan for the group Voluntary Human Extinction (or something like that... it actually IS a group that believes humans should become extinct... to protect the planet)
