More free speech criminalized by the Left...

Voicing an opinion that homosexual couples shouldn't be permitted to adopt children will get you a visit by the (thought) police in England.... for a "homophobic incident". Can we be far behind?

"It is standard practice for all parties to be spoken to, even if the incident is not strictly seen as a crime. "It is all about reassuring the community," said the spokesman."

Yikes. Orwell was knew who he was writing about.

Have any of you been on a college campus lately? The doublespeak is amazing.

stevepaa 12-20-2005 11:07 AM

Nice misleading title.

So the police received a complaint and you want them to do what?

Overpaid Slacker 12-20-2005 11:12 AM

How 'bout if we complain to the police about you, steve-o? You think a visit for a non-illegal, but PC-offensive post here should get you a visit from your gendarmes? Would that reassure your real or this virtual community?

How 'bout the cops using their discretion and not paying a visit for something "not strictly seen as a crime."

I like the "not strictly seen as a crime" euphemism. How 'bout "not at all a crime, but gets enough sand in someone's vagina to make them bytch about it."

Nathans_Dad 12-20-2005 11:16 AM

Steve here's a thought, how about the police tell the complaintant that they have no complaint and there is such a thing as free speech?? You know, that wacky liberal idea you guys all talk about when it comes to burning bras or gay pride marches...doesn't it count for conservatives too?

legion 12-20-2005 11:18 AM

No Rick. Geesh.

When conservatives exercise free speech, it's called 'hate speech'.

You obviously aren't responding well to your re-education.

Nathans_Dad 12-20-2005 11:21 AM

Oh, that's right. I forgot. Sorry....back to my brainwashing I guess.

Rikao4 12-20-2005 11:44 AM

sh@@, they would always be at my house, a spot of Tea Officer. And no, I'm not homophopic...

Okay, guys, your next door neighbor hears loud shouting between you and your wife, and calls the cops. So do you want them to suggest to the complainant that you are practicing scenes from Virginia Wolf?

They went to both parties. Don't you think they suggested to the other party that this was not a homophobic incident?

Nathans_Dad 12-20-2005 12:33 PM

Steve that is apples to oranges. This was a complaint made by a citizen in response to what someone said over TALK RADIO. Not a suspected domestic violence incident.

Same thing would be if you heard Rush Limbaugh suggest that he thought gays should not be allowed to adopt and the NYPD showed up at his door to "counsel" him about his statements.

You support that?

stevepaa 12-20-2005 12:41 PM

We have no idea what the complainant alleged was said over the radio. He could have made up all sorts of derogatory, inflamatory comments that he attributed to the talk show guest. The police did their job. Investigated the complaint and found it without basis.

No problem with a talk show guest saying what she said she said.

Nathans_Dad 12-20-2005 12:43 PM

Steve it doesn't MATTER what the police thought was said over the radio. The person could have said she thought all gays should be castrated and burned at the stake. That isn't ILLEGAL.

stevepaa 12-20-2005 12:46 PM

Inciting others to do harm to others is not illegal?

Damn boy, for someone from Texas you sure are ignorant. Free speech does not count for white people, especially white men.

This was a hate crime, pure and simple. First you talk about it, the next thing you know you got homos hangin' from trees, seen it a hundred times.

widebody911 12-20-2005 12:49 PM

What does this have to do with the Left?

depends on who is doin' the incitin'. There is no responsibility associated with free speech, it has been in all the papers.

stevepaa 12-20-2005 12:54 PM

Yelling fire is illegal, saying bomb on an airplane is illegal, inciting others to do criminal acts is illegal.

CamB 12-20-2005 12:59 PM

Reread the article guys. It reads to me that:

- woman says stuff on radio,
- a pants-in-a-knot person complains to police about a homophobic incident
- police investigate, find nothing wrong
- police advise woman that complaint made against her

So what is there to get irritated about? Justice is served (ie, nothing happened). If I was accused of a crime, and investigated, no matter how stupid the accusation, I would want to know about it. The police did the right thing by advising the woman she had been accused.
