"It's for the children" is what Hillary will tell us.

Teddy Kennedy and his younger cousin know that very well. Your example of MK is not valid by the way, Tabs said "in this country" and last time I looked we are not in Russia. You maybe but not us...

I guarantee that auto theft and recovery numbers won't change with the system though. It won't be used to prevent crime, only to rip off the American populace more through traffic citations and insurance premiums.

tabs 12-22-2005 06:23 AM

HMMMMM..OJ Simpson, Robert Blake.....

An what do I care about traffic ciations and insurance premiums, I'll be toolin around in a chaufered limosene.

I do get confused. Yesterday I picked up the paper and there was a major story about the government spying on its own people, secretly and without any judicial involvement. Then the leader of the country defended the program and said it was disloyal to even talk about it. He's a bit bruised from having lost his fight for the right to torture enemy combatants, but is still fighting the "traitors" that refuse to support a war he started without justification. This leader actually has the military spying on groups that peacefully protest his administration's policies, and a judge just resigned in protest over some of these illegal activities.

What country am I in?

tabs 12-22-2005 06:28 AM

The United States of Rome.....aka The American Empire

Gore Vidal said in the 1990s that the USA became a "NATIONAL SECURITY STATE" in 1948.

The Brits are saying they want to use this system to "fight crime". And I believe them, they will fight "crime" for a while, before they find new uses for the system...

They do do have a crime problem, mostly because they are loath to lock anyone up and keep them there.. So the burden is thrown back onto honest citizens. They need that revolution they never had.

As a Brit, a car enthusiast, and somebody who likes to go where ever they please, this whole thing worries me and to be honest it should concern you lot as well!

To make this sort of thing profitable you can bet your last dollar that it will be also used for detecting things like minor speeding infringements and potentialy used for road charging, basicaly anything that will potentialy make money.

Dont get too smug thinking your a nice safe, couple of thousand miles away, all politicians think alike! Check the manifesto's carefully befor you next vote!

From now on my reg plates will be forever dirty and unreadable!

Notice, it's the socialist government in Britain doing it. Leftists are far more socialist than conservatives.
Though the Conservatives were the dominant governing party in the United Kingdom between 1834 and 1997, since losing the 1997 election to the Labour Party under Tony Blair, they have been in 'opposition' in Parliament.

So all the monitoring has been set up in the last 8 years? And the Conservatives did not object? Isn't Tony in bed with W on this terrorist war? Aren't they like minded?

Seems the populace has voted to give up liberty for security. Sounds familiar to me.

I think this is already being implemented in the U.S. under the
brand name OnStar. With that "option", your driving habits can/are being monitored right now.

Well, Stockholm starts up their little experiment with cameras monitoring every vehicle passing in an out of the city limits beginning in January.

Authorities call it "crowd tax". You get registered passing the city limit and billed $3. Supposedly this will motivate people to use other forms of transportation, lowering emissions and crowding in the inner city.

Now I understand the true motive. Glad I am from down South.

Uh, guys, if you carry a mobile phone that's turned on, they know where you are already. And that little black stripe on the back of your driver's license probably has info on your sperm count.

Check engine light came on in my SUV. Dealer plugged in and said the car was running a bit lean 2 days before @77mph. 1984 was 21 years ago SmileWavy
