hey, think of it as a great opportunity to take legal action if you get hacked. :-(
none, and i mean none of the forums that i've posted on before have let ip addresses be available to the public. and since you can make your ip random, i fail to see why it's even posted. i predict it will go away. ![]() |

Anyone who complains about this IP thing is just begging to be hacked!!!
If you are afraid about it being posted, it means one thing: Your computer is not safe, and you should make it safe! This is a wake up call to all people. |

I would really like it if my IP was not publically visable. For instance, if you wanted to do a DOS attack on someone, all you have to do is type in "ping.exe {target IP address} -l 65500 -n 10000" at the command line and if you have a fat enough pipe, you can seriously cripple somebody's internet connection. Just that I know this is scary enough, but the fact that all you have to look up is DOS attack in hotbot to find this very command line that can cripple somebody if they haven't disabled UDP packets (and most everybody hasn't), is scary to see if you pissed someone off, they can try to shut you down. This especially sux if you have a static IP, in which case you will have to fight back.
Anyways, get rid of the public IP logging! Thanks, ------------------ ribs, 86' 951 [This message has been edited by ribs (edited 07-23-2001).] |

and if someone wants to make their area unknown to the rest of the board, then can be found out by the IP address index.

Just for fun, I ran a DOS attack on lars for a couple of minutes, and I can tell you all that his total bandwidth down is less than 5000 kilobytes / second, and he is 770 ms round trip away from me, so he is probably on dial up 56K. Lars, did you notice you connection getting really slow for a couple of minutes?

Just go out and download "BlackIce." It will block any inbound requests on just about every port. Complete security, no more worries.

This is sooooo dumb, lots of BBS' log IP's. Look at most other BBS's of this type and they will either state the IP or have a link that states IP logged. I would assume this is because this board is a "canned" product. Meaning Pelican bought the rights or software to run this type of BBS on their server, and I would guess that IP logging is built in - part of the Ultimate Bulletin Board package.
Unless you are on a static IP you shouldn't worry. If you are THEN you either 1)Block incomming requests - 2)Shouldn't be on the net at work. Look most people using plebian net access, use dial-up like AOL (compuserve, AOL, netscape), MSN, etc... and those services have dynamic IP or super dynamic IP's (that one cannot even decipher or access). Even if you saw a dynamic IP, I doubt one could access anything on that network (dial-up IP). Those with static IP's pay a lot of money to have them, and appropriately should take measures to protect their investment, if not then its their fault. Further, the only ones on this board who must worry about an attack is Shaun, Por2by, and Grommit for pissing everyone off periodically. ![]() Anyway, I think the panties are getting bunched, pretty damn tight, for no reason! I can feel the flames coming, Rich UPDATE: After a search, looks like IP is new, I amend the first paragraph, but still could care less about the whole topic. Hey Tex... What did I ever do to piss you off?
Lets play it this way. Leave me out of this. Did you ever think that by just posting my name, you give the local deviants a target and instill the idea to go after me again... ![]() Quote:
