Worlds best mattress
 

How about something usefull, like whats the best mattress in the world? Most of us spend more time on one than we do in a Porsche. Pay bokoo bucks for Recarro seats, but where do we spend up to 8 or 9 hours a day doing? Laying on a mattress (notice I didn't day sleeping).

Is Duxania the best at about $6,000? or is it the really expensive VI Spring at $22,000? Or is the Costco, Sams club mattress of the week the best? Of course all comparasons are King size only. Unless theres a better bigger one out there.

I have tried most of them and I ended up with a Dux, so at this point my vote is Dux.

Why don't you ask your Mother?

Shifman. I really, really like it. It was good bit less than $6k, also.

Comfortaire beds are the best! We have purchased 5 of them over the past year and we love them. We buy ours online at www.nationwidemattress.com and Richard takes great care of us. I'm just a customer, not a salesperson, but the Comfortaire beds are adjustable, comfortable, well-made and durable. We have the "dual-air control" on ours, but our kids and grandfather have the single air mattress beds. Just put the mattress on a box or foundation (not box springs) and you're all set. Very comfortable!

I still want a Tempurpedic after trying one once. But At the $1500-2000 price I keep coming back to "But could get a new exhaust system, plasma cutter, or other toy that would be more fun for the same cash.

I bought a mattress in the spring. I actually shopped the Dux bed. It was very nice, but very expensive.

Ended up buying a Sterns and Foster.There are several reasons

1. Alot of the new beds that are coming out use a lot of latex "memory foam"., like the Tempurpedic. This feels great, but tends to be very hot. I don't have A/C and I sweat enough as is...so thanks, I will pass. Sterns and Foster had minimal foamage.

2. With foam beds eliminated, we ended up shopping for spring mattresses, the Dux bed included. Dux was checked off the list pretty fast. Although it is comfortable, it ain't $6K comfortable!!!

3. So the Dux is done. Anyway, we shopped some more and we found a mattress we liked but went to a another store just to compare, because the salesman at the store we were at was not paying us much attention and giving us a bad vibe.

The salesman at the second store was very helpful. He saw which mattress we said we liked and then said:

"So are I see you are lying on your back. Do you normally sleep like that?"

Of course not. I usually sleep face down or on my side. So does my girlfriend.

"Well, in that case you are probably going to want this one instead. Everyone tries out these mattresses lying on their back, but the type of springing will really depend on which way you sleep."

He was right. Little bits of info like that make all the difference. He got the business and gave us a great deal.

BTW: He also told us that alot of people get a super-hard mattress for no good reason. Super-hard mattress are made for super-big people. Just like the springs on your bike or you car, the springs in a mattress are geared towards the weight they will carry. To somebody in the 250lb range, one of those super hard mattresses will feel soft.

The reverse is also true. So if you are skinny, you will want something with softer springs.

Keep these bits in mind when you try out the mattresses.

We just got a super mattress for $100. We started with our old, too hard mattress and added a memory foam topper. It's great now!

I thought the Select Comfort (Sleep Number?) bed was BS until I spent a night on one. The next day I called them up and ordered one. That was 8 years ago. Still sleep on the same bed and can't sleep comfortably anywhere else.

Nice, but how is this related to the worlds best mattress?

Threw a S&F pillow top out for a mid grade Sleep Number bed a two years ago. Used that for 6 months until I'd been through every setting and couldnt sleep at all. I gave it away. I bought a pillowtop Serta with the Cashmere and memory foam in the top and have slept well since then.

Did the same thing for my bed at school this year. After a week of sleeping on the mattress the school supplies I was having major back pain every morning. A four inch memory foam topper and the problem has been solved. The foam toppers seem to be a great fix for problems like that. Now trying to find sheets that will fit well over the topper and the mattress is a different issue all together.

We have the Select Comfort / Sleep Number setup as well -- very happy with it still after ~2 yrs. In my younger days I was not a fussy sleeper at all. I could literally sleep on the ground (backpacking) with no padding, or whatever, it didn't really matter. Now that I'm pushing the big 4-0 it matters quite a bit more ;) I don't see spending $5+ K on a mattress set any time soon, though!?!?!

I'm using a futon with a memory foam topper from costco. No complaints. From either side.

Pillows though...gotta be down.

What about VI Spring??? Hasn't anyone shelled out over $20K for a mattress?

I think I need to explore the bedroom...
