That was an outstanding game! Vince Young is something else...

Anybody hear Leinart's jackass comment at the end? "I think we're still a better football team, they just made the big plays." What a cocky and sore loser. Oh well, he'll get his in the NFL.

Now everybody that hasn't been watching the Big 12 all year knows what the hype is about with Young. Could he have played a better game? Now the question is, will he go pro? What a ballgame!

JeremyD 01-05-2006 05:43 AM

Man, that was like a heavyweight prize fight !

bivenator 01-05-2006 05:59 AM

Matt Whinert comments were crybaby and selfish. His blaming the poor tackling and calling Bush by name for fumbling and then glossing over his interception indicated to me that he is a putz. Freaking awesome game, people were out in the streets of my quiet suburb at midnight shooting fireworks and screaming Go Horns. It was quite a nite.

This Ag is gonna give up the props to the t-sips....hell of a game and way to go bringin the national title to the Big 12. My mom's 2nd husband is a HUGE UT fan and they were both actually at the game. Paid like $600 a ticket to go. Needless to say, his life is now complete...

Now if the Ags can just get Franchione to pull his head out and have a winning record again...

M.D. Holloway 01-05-2006 06:36 AM

Man am I sorry I went to bed with 8 minutes left...yes, I am a loser!!!!:(

Next year belongs to KSU!SmileWavy

Ok, maybe not. At least we have some Big 12 bragging rights again.

His success in the NFL is far from guaranteed. I think his decision to come back for a 5th year and take that one 'dance class' cost him a ton of money and a couple spots on the draft board.

I'd put Troy Smith and Vince Young ahead of Matt on a draftboard if they came out. Leinart comes across as the type of guy that eventually will get a grenade tossed into his tent.

It was oddly satisfying to see USC get a karmic payback on the knee down scoring by Texas. Remember the Bush push versus ND?

Vince Young just blew my mind. What a ball player that kid is.

My analysis...

I'm gonna piss some people off here, but what else is new:). First, some background: I used to be a big college football fan, but not in recent years. In fact, I didn't watch a game this year, until last night. I'm not a fan of either team, and was't rooting for either, I just wanted the game to be clean, with no controversy, and have the best team win. In my opinion, SC was robbed by a bad call in the fourth quarter. Forget about the fantom knee-down touchdown in the first half. It's likely that Texas would have scored on the next play anyway. I'm talking about the completed pass that was fumbled by the Texas receiver, and recovered by SC. At the time SC was up pretty big (by 12 if I recall correctly, 38-26). The guys in the smoky room reviewed the call and ruled it an incomplete pass. That's BS. I think their attitude was that they didn't want to reverse the call becuase it was a plausibly close call, and anyway, SC was up big at the time. Had that call gone the other way, and it clearly should of, it almost certainly would have ended Texas' chances. Anyway, I thought the purpose of instant replay was to make this kind of call accurately? Unless I'm missing something (which maybe I am like the receiver has to have the ball for more than a specified length of time before it's ruled a reception), the game was tarnished by this call. I realize the game was close and exciting, and I take nothing away from Texas, who played a great game, but a close exciting game, doesn't necessarily make for a great game. Incidentally, I thought SC made more than their share of bone-headed plays, like the inexplicable Bush lateral in the first half, and didn't deserve to win. What was that? Finally, I'll second guess going for fourth and 2 on the 50 with 2 minutes to play. The SC coach mush have had NO confidence in his defense, which in retrospect, he probably shouldn't have. Flame away!

onewhippedpuppy 01-05-2006 08:09 AM

Maybe I wasn't very clear with that comment einreb, that's what I was getting at. I think Leinart is very spoiled with USC's line, when he gets hit he seems to get rattled easily. I do believe that he is a good QB, just not all that he is hyped to be. I guarantee you, he's kicking himself now for not going pro last year, and going out on top.

onewhippedpuppy 01-05-2006 08:13 AM

aways, the college football instant replay policy is that the call on the field stands unless there is "indisputable" evidence that it was wrong. My guess is that the Texas fumble was so borderline that it didn't meet that criteria, and the incomplete call was allowed to stand. I think it was borderline, far less clear cut than the knee down pitch of Young that they missed.

Thanks for clearing up the replay rule for me. Regarding the knee-down play: does the SC coach have to ask explicitly for a review, or do the officials make the request? The announcers sort of implied that Texas quickly kicked the extra point before a review could be requested...?

Terrible game! Not enough cheerleader or pretty girls in the stands shots...Must have been gay sideline camera guys (not that there's anything wrong with that)

I agree with you there Paul - my son (who's six) sat down to watch the game with me - in the first 5 minutes he asked where the cheerleaders were...

Superman 01-05-2006 09:07 AM

Okay, I got a good look at the cheerleaders, and I think USC wins HANDS DOWN. But then, I like brunettes and the Texas bimbos were nothing special.

Oh, and you Texans have a fairly decent quarterback there.

Matt Leinart: The next Ryan Leaf?

Vince Youg: A better Michael Vick?

Great job Texas.

Now, I'm super excited for the September 9th Ohio State/Texas game in Austin. Should be a fantastic showdown, as it was earlier this year. I wonder if Young will be around to throw?

I'm already working on getting tickets. Anyone else? By the way, I graduated from Ohio State in '91, so I'm a Buckeye of course.

For now, a well earned victory for the Horns......congrats.

Best,
