I want to post a little more info, and a follow up.

The filming is based around a race that I am (tentatively) planning to enter next year. The offer was for more up-front visibility, as opposed to just seeing me and the p-car as background. The visibility would be in the form of a mock "interview with the racer" or something along those lines, plus name in the credits.

As in my first post, I really don't want to go into too many details. But suffice to say that there is a catch - and it's a catch that represents a financial risk to me.

Further, yesterday I received some more correspondence from the race promoter. In that email, I just get the feeling that the details are too unsettled at this point for my comfort level.

Unless something drastic changes, I'm planning to just settle into the 911 and enjoy the race. Hell, my car is pretty recognizable even without my name in the credits.


Now, on another note...

A porno, involving the Duster, and called DODGE-BALLS ??

Other than the fact that the Duster is a Plymouth, I'm interested. We'll change the chrome and call it a Dart Sport (same body).

Yep that's it in a nut shell. They wanted the 911 for a film here in FL. They paid $100.00 a day for the car. Then gave me the best haircut I have ever had, and paid me $75.00 a day as an extra to drive it up and down the street. it will change the way you watch movies again forevever.

I've been approached only once about my car, but never went through with it. H-wood damages cars with impunity as they'd rather pay you the insurance costs or total the car out, than be careful with it.

When I was a kid, I watched the filming of the Ferrari vs. Porsche race on Sunset Blvd. in "Against All Odds." They thrashed three Porsches and a couple of F-cars doing that scene - or so the traffic cop who was watching over the proceeding told me.

I would imagine that this tread has turned into interesting reading for those of us on this board that make our living making movies, TV shows and commercials.
Lots of people seem to have very interesting ideas of what's invloved in making a film and how decisions are reached.

What do you mean?

Well lets say I'm shooting a movie and the scene has two people exit a store and talk in front of their car in a nice shopping district before they get in and drive away.
This is only one short scene in the entire movie.
When the script is going thru breakdown this turns out to be something like Ext/ Day Street in shopping district 1 1/2 pgs
The Director tells locations what type of street /store fronts he/she wants. The DP (me) is concerned with north/ south facing stores, what time is the light falling where, shadows from other building, is it buried in shade all day etc. Art department needs to know how much signage, set dressing etc to get the look the story and Director want. Locations go out and scout several and one is picked. Permits are pulled cops and fire arranged, ITC or full traffic control is arranged. Other stores have to give permission and be paid if you close the street /sidewalk to traffic people etc
Probably a day or so before main unit arrives the Art department is putting up false signs on stores and dressing the windows that will be in shot, changing newspaper boxes out to be generic, lossing mailboxes if your in another country, hidding anything you don't have permission to show on film (signs etc) Locations will be tagging meters and placing no parking signs for the shoot day . Transportation will be scouting parking for the support vehicles, Camera, grip, electric, props, hair, makeup waredrobe, talent trailers, production offices etc plus parking for the 40-100 crew that will be arriving
Prior to this the during the break down the Direct will have said " it should look like an upscale busy shopping area " so casting has to go out and get 30 extra's with multiple waredrobe changes, oh and let production know so they can bring on extra AD's, and find a place to keep and feed the extra's oh and bathrooms. Plus we are going to need some nice but not too nice cars driving up and down the street and some just parked.
So and hour or so before general crew call the Teamsters will arrive with the trucks, transportation will have them arranged for parking and power, the caterer will be there so the crew can eat when they arrive, talent will be in before general crew call so they can get into hair and make. The crew will start doing there jobs and the Second Second AD will start organizing the background usually for the widest " Master " shot.
Blocking rehearsals, lighting, dolly moves camera rehearsals then we shoot.
And the guy driving thru the frame at 20 mph 60 feet from the principle talent is thinking . Wow I'm not getting paid enough and this is the most boring thing I've ever done!

No. There is absolutely a blacklist in Hollywood...The only ones who are relatively out about their beliefs are the stunt guys...They are predominantly Republican.

Cdnone has it down. It takes 8 days (Min. 96 hours) to shoot a 1 hour episodic show (42 minutes, minus commercials). I was working on a show in the late 80's with a scene in a "50's Texas Drive In Theater" and they had the local Car Club bring their vehicles. Of course they were all shined up, and the first thing the Director said was " This is supposed to be 1953 Texas, these cars would be dusty." At that time the Production Designer grabbed a handfull of dirt and gravel, dropped it on the hood of a car and proceeded to "rub it in". The owner (and also the Director) flipped out and that was the first time I ever saw someone break down and cry on Set. I would never allow a Film Company to touch My car, set foot in My house or photograph My Child. You might as well sell your soul to the Devil.

That's pretty much what I thought... Shows how much they value "tolerance" and "diversity" when they're in the majority...

I had great luck when my car was on Friends. They detailed it afterward, filled it with gas, and paid for any damages without question. A low budget film, I would want to be there with it. They can be a bit shady. Music video, run away and lock your car in the garage.
